why does the DS90X have a emissions air box ??

the front exhaust pipe has a tube coming off of it that goes to a rubber line , it wraps around the top of the motor and over to a plastic box on the left fender. the box has a open port that looks like a hose should be there and it sucks air.. like a polution pump of some sort ??

if my son goes into a deep puddle he will be sucking water through this port and out the exhaust ... whats the purpose and will it hurt anything ??

can i just remove the set up and plug the exhaust port ???

That is evidently an AIR injection, similar to what comes on the DS250's. They use the intake manifold pulses to operate a diaghram type pump to inject fresh air direct into the exhaust header to help burn off emissions, etc.
Yes, you can plug it off without hurting the engine, as long as you ensure that you also plug off the vacuum port on the intake or carb so you don't end up with a vacuum leak.
