electrical help !!

I have an '05 outlander 400 max xt. Was on a trail run when all my dash lights came on. It continued to run for a bit then started sputtering and quit. Not enough juice in the battery to start it, but it started with a pull after an hour. Ran for about 5 minutes then the problem repeated. I tested my battery and it's no good. Reads 12v then drops to 8 when pushing the start button. I'm not thinking this is the issue, but might be worth mentioning. Could it be a grounded positive wire somewhere? Voltage reg charging too high? (killing the battery). Stator issue? thanks for any help or leads.

I'm gonna claim the assist here, lol, as technically a blown fuse is a "wiring" issue :ROFLMAO: :p :ROFLMAO: :p

That's my story and I'm sticking to it, ha

But seriously, glad we could help (y)

Good to hear and congratulations on sticking with it.
Owning an '05 Outlander 400 myself, they are a fairly simple machine to maintain.

This was indeed a group effort.

Hold on to the old VR just in case the fuse pops again, which would most likely indicate a wiring harness issue an not a faulty VR.

I kept the old one...just in case. Took her for a nice mud run today and wasn't easy on it. (very happy it's 4x4). I'm checking the voltage more often than maybe I should. Think I may just pick up a small digital voltage display to mount on it.
