2018 Outlander MAX XT 850

So I want to replace the crappy shocks.

I am torn between stage 1 2 or 3. I only do fast trail riding.
Stage 1 pretty basic and 400$ cheaper.
Stage 2 has rebound control but no low speed compression control.
Stage 3 has the opposite, no rebound control but low speed compression.

?????????? HELP!!!

I have my stage 4s set up to ride fairly plush at cruising speeds and slow trail riding. I also can take quite the bumps at speed without issue.

Like others have said in nicer terms. Some people talk about stuff like they know something......but they really don't.

That's the great thing about custom shocks. They can and do ride nicely at low speed and take the hits when you wick it up!

I have Fox Podiums on the way so I'm very interested in this topic...

Has anybody considered removing the Torsion Bar on the rear end for slower technical trail riding?
I left mine out...
I replaced my whole suspension system and don't have any trail ride time on the upgrades yet but a test ride around the block on the stock shocks last night has me convinced I won't be re-installing it.

I took the rear bar out of mine the last 2 winters on tracks. Didn't do it this year though. I didn't like the feel at all on tires.

I too run tracks during the winter. I just bought a 2020 outlander 1000 xt. My first can am. Looking at Elka stage 3 also. Been running tracks for years on Grizzly's. I'm curious as to why you removed the rear sway bar for tracking? How did it changed the machine performance or ride? Can't wait for the snow!

thanks. It’s a pain in the ass to do but when you tires of seeing every xmr look the same .... and I get bored lol. Pretty cheap to. We make them here at a local shop in any 3 color combo for $160 Canadian 52”x60” gloss or matte finish

Removing the sway bar lets it articulate more and keep the rear tracks planted for a little better traction. We do some pretty steep side hilling often and it makes it feel like it's less prone to rolling over. For overall riding, I like it in better than out.
BrianE has the stage 3 Elka's and they are super plush when tuned right.

I am curious on any updates on this subject. My wife and I have a 19 Max 850and we are heavy people so a shock upgrade may be a good plan. We ride some rough rugged trails and have somesteep hills and side hills. I am impressed what the Can am does but I know it can be better.
