First Ride on the new bike...

So I had my first ride on Sunday. Made it about 700 ft and clipped a rock, bent the left front wheel and got a flat...WTF?! Back to the truck, beat it down and re-filled...good to go. No complaints really, plenty of power, suspension is good, but, I cant stand the clutch noise. How long did it take before you guys forgot about hearing it? I'm just not a fan of the engage-disengage clicking...
So, first mod? And I dont neccessarily mean protection stuff, I mean like performance stuff...what should it be?

Is that what the hell that noise is? Went on my first ride yesterday and got with it pretty good. You know, on the gas hard then hit the brakes, rail around the corners and hit the throttle again.

When I would grab the binders to slow down, there would be one heck of a clicking sound, almost like sticks were hitting the undercarrige. It would actually happen even without applying the brakes, just from engine braking, which is pretty substantial in it's own right.

I thought there was going to be a trip to the shop in my future.

I can tell you one thing, this thing needs fender flares and more bottom end. Maybe a clutch kit is in store for me.

OH ya. The clutch is very noisey. I thoaught there was something wrong with my motor. The noise still bugs me. At idle mine clacks clunks and ticks. Sometimes sounds like knocking coming from the motor. I"m a real noise guy. Noises bug me.
I pulled the cvt cover off, and thats exactly were the noise is comeing from. You just have too get used too it.
They also clank when they engage and go forward from a dead stop. Even chatter sometimes.
But the thing is a rocket and loads of fun.....
Protection would be and is my first upgrade. Just got my ricochet skids, atr aluminum spine, and stealth snorkel kit.
After that its then performance upgrades. I hear clutch upgrades work well, and maybe tires....bighorns seems too be the ones.
Hope this helps

Normal noises are what I am being told by most. Seems strange, they ought to be able to do something about that. Oh well.

My other quad is a Honda 400EX and my 500 Renegade would get smoked in a drag race by the Honda. I just want more of that bottom end that the Honda has. I don't think there is any lack of engine power so it has to be a clutch issue. Truth be told it's probably just a power to weight ratio thing.

I really wish I had gotten the 800 but my wife said she'd like to get into riding and I didn't think the 800 would make for a good learner.

Thanks for the piece of mind. :th_smiliethankyou:

I am a real noise guy. If i hear one little tick i'm freaking. I'm my own worst enemy.
So i have heard every noise it makes.
I used too have classic cars, and rebuilt them from scratch. So i think thats were i get it from.
I had a crf450, you want too hear a motor that sounds like its about too explode. Have a listen too one of those....LOL...
Good luck

Jetting has nothing to do with engine noise. Nore does the fact its a four stroke.
ITs the size of the piston skirt, that makes it so noisey. They slap around alot on the honda crf 450 bikes.
Anyways, its not important...

Yeah, its def noisy. As long as its not gonna be a problem down the road and its just the nature of the beast...it seems like it could come apart on deceleration...hopefully it doesnt, lol.

Doing the clutch for some more bottom end might be in order, but I want to get it broken in fully first. Still trying to decide from all these posts which snorkel kit to buy as well...
