Fuel pump fuse faulty 26h on outlander 850

Could be a fluke but I got 456km (26h) on my outlander 850 xtp and was riding around the yard with my daughter and bike randomly stalled on me.

Remembered reading lots about fuel pump fuses on here so decided to check it and sure enough the fuse was blown.

[10amp fuse)

Odly enough the fuse didn't seem to have actually blown but almost seemed like it broke. The middle portion of fuse had a 1/4" broken clean no markings or anything on fuse itself.

I got a ride coming up and curious if I should do a little bit of a deeper dive.

It is under warranty but at this point it's running fine with a new fuse so doubt they will even bother looking at it if I even wanted them to.

Just want to see if I should be checking anything out or if any of you had a fuse just randomly go out like that

So from what I'm gathering 90% chance fuel pump is already on its way out? Or a vent issue?

Wasn't from low fuel as it's 3/4 full. Can't see the bike having a clogged fuel filter or anything in those lines either.

The gas tank did vacuum when I opened gas cap but I don't think it was that excessive. Unless it shouldn't have a vacuum at all. Not sure if it's just the vent. we were only doing short 5 min rides then park for 5 then ride for 5. Previous weekend did a 2 hour ride (no mud just a bit dusty) and had no issues

Mine started with the vent noise ...... seems popular 21s and 22s. Dealer fixed it ..... all good ..... 2 weeks later fuel pump started radom "no start". In june I got my fuel pump replaced under warranty.

Keep us posted !!

I'll go take bike for a spin and verify if it was pressure or vacuum. I want to say it was vacuum but I didn't pay much attention seeing I was more so trying to figure out why it just randomly died.

Hope it's not the fuel pump as I got a ride coming up 3 hours away in the middle of no where with no cell service. Be a long tow home and I can imagine I'll be torn a new one by the polaris owner lol

CanAmRancher is right about vaccum vs positive pressure. Vaccum = problem.
In my case it was also positive because that first time it happened, my ride would just turn over/ no start. It was my real first ride on a HOT day and I could hear a loud trumpet sound from the back caused by this defective vent valve and also the pffffft opening tha gas cap. But after the fix, it happened again but now the engine was cold. I had just arrived at the parking where the trail begans. Got it started, went for a ride and the following monday the dealer replaced the pump. So far I've done 1200km on the new pump 😎

Yeah I'll get the pffft from gas cap but normal to come extent from what I've read. I have never gotten the loud "trumpet" noise yet.

It was actually not that hot out. Had a nice breeze open field cruising around in lower speeds with the odd hard accell for fun.

I mean I could call and see what they say I really don't feel like waiting until I'm far out for it to fail. Let alone spend a couple hundred to go camping with it and end up not being able to use it half way through

Definitely wasn't the hottest day the bike saw and wasn't driven all that hard either especially in comparison to when I'm riding solo.

I had no warning on my 2021 XMR. I went to pull over to side of trail to get into some shade and the ATV started and died. It would roll over but no start. We check all fuses, they were good. Towed back to truck and then to dealer for new Fuel pump.

im a little confused on one thing though. why is the original fuel pump failing but an oem replacement seems to do the trick? shouldnt they both be the same pump? or did I miss some convos on here where the OEM one in general is just not reliable

I've raised the same question here after reading all these threads about this problem. I also asked as to whether the part number changed between the factory pump and the pump the dealerships are installing and the answer was no. They are the same pumps.

Therefore, there are two possibilities: 1) the batch of pumps that were installed at the factory had a defect in them, but Can-Am caught this defect now and the pumps going to the dealerships for replacement are a new batch
or
2) both factory and dealership pumps are the same which means it's a matter of time before they fail again.

For those with warranty, if the pump fails again, have the dealership replace it again and hopefully after enough replacements globally, Can-Am will issue a recall.
For those without warranty, go with the quantum pump and be done with it for life with their lifetime warranty.

Is your dealer one of the PerformanceNC group?
My dealer is PerformanceNC in St-Germain and I have had excellent service all around. The warranty work they did was quick and no hassle. Not that I recommend it to you if there is one closer but I have been wondering if all the PerformanceNC locations give the same quality service.

No it isnt I've been dealing with loiselle sports so far and cant complain. well see how things turn out as I havent had to deal with their service side yet. I bought my XTP at a different dealer as they had one coming in at an earlier date.

So just an update I called today to ask for a quick update as I was getting a little weary on turn around time with an upcoming planned trip with the bike.

The dealer is replacing the fuel pump. They had to outsource a gasket from another dealer once thats in the bike will be done and ready to go.

no additional questions asked. so all in all happy they are changing the fuel pump without question and definitely happy they put some time and effort into outsourcing parts from other dealers seeing Canam isnt shipping / sending anything right now due to the hack
