hi all,

I started this thread to get people's opinions on can ams g1 and g2 bikes.

What's improved?

What would you prefer?

What does can am need to improve?

Thanks :th_smiliethumbsup:

I don't have the G2 chassis I have the G1 but the G2's seem much better engineering wise, brakes, air filter suspension, battery placement, lighting and frame much stronger but what irritates me more about the can am's is the sub transmission shifter which is a pain where I sit and it's even a worst pain when we plow with it.I had a friends artic cat at my place and the shifter on those bikes shift like butter ( i know they have the wet clutch system) while mine is a pain and as I can see they didn't do much about it because my 2006 and now my 2009 800 max had the same problem. We are 6 with can am and they are all a pain shifter wise.Even the polaris which have the same system are better shifting wise.So come on BRP get to work and do something about it!

I'll agree on the shifter. My buds 650 Mud Pro shifts like butter compared to my clunky beast..

They don't all shift hard, my 1k xmr shifts nice. My wifes 650 Xmr does not. My last wheeler which was an 850 XP Popo shifted worse than both. The G2 has a better chassis, but it also miserable to work on. The powersteering has gotton much better over the years as well.

Same here, I have no problems with my shifter but my Uncle 2013 800 xt is crap. I can't say how easy Cats shifters work but if they're anything like my King Quad, butter smooth is right on. As for difference between G1 and G2, well I drove both and to my liking the G2 just felt more at home.

I've had three G1's, a 400, then a 650XT, and now a 2010 800R XTP, nice shifting on all of them. But mostly I like the power steering on the 10' model.

I think the other notable G1 to G2 difference is you can get the 1000 only in a G2 if I am not mistaken. My next Can Am will be a 1000, but I am in no hurry to get rid of my 800R.

I have no complaints about my shifter, it aint buttery smooth but it about the same as my BF 750 was and better the my popo 700. As for the rest, they need better break pads, bigger tie rods, stiffer front springs and better cooling for dps motor.:smilietwocents:

I've had 5 G1's, and just got a G2. I like the lighter weight of the G1, and less plastic to deal with for maintenance. The G2 has better suspension stock I think and I like the power steering. As far as improvements, need to make the front diff. selectable to open or full locked on the fly and have the engineers spend and extra 5 min. and design the darn thing to do an oil change in under an hour! Both are great machines and by far the best on the market...at 35K+ miles on can-am products with virtually no issues.

The pain of oil change is soon forgotten once you go for a ride! G2 is a far better bike hands down! Had a 07 800 outie ,put 7700 Kms on it! Loved it till I got my 13 outie! I drilled a hole throw pastic so I can get oil filter screws out, and don't take pastic off
