Looking at purchasing the Honda pilot fl400r for my kid. I'm hoping to find out as much as possible....reliability, common problems, pricing....if any of you have experience with these machines I'd greatly appreciate any input you can offer!
Thanks in advance!

These are great machines , my brother and I had the odyssey when we were kids and had a great time on it. The engine was bullet proof. I think the 400 was only made a couple of years so it's pretty hard to find one and when you do it's not cheap. I looked for one for my son and ended up just getting him a new quad for cheaper than what I could find one in good condition for. They were ranging between 3500 to 7500 depending on condition. Good luck on your find as I said there great machines.

Thanks for the reply! My son has already killed a quad and he's almost finished off his knock off dune buggy. I feel much more comfortable seeing him with a machine with a roll cage. He is only 9 right now. Obviously I will have to govern the pilot down for him. I did find a pilot in very nice shape with a new top end motor rebuild. The owner has definitely maintained the machine very well. BUT, it is 22 years old. I just fear getting nickled and dimed to death. Parts are hard to find as well.....guess I have some thinking to do.

I agree, but IMO if you found one in good condition for a reasonable price it may be worth. Currently other than the cheap knock offs your only option is Polaris rzr 170, and you'll get nickel and dimmed with it also. You would probably have an easier time selling it and getting your money back. Again good luck

I really wish parts for the pilot were easier to find. I know it's overkill for a boy but at least he would still have fun years from now driving it...( if I could keep it running). Sure would be cool to own though...I'm thinking the kid wouldnt have a chance to drive it...I'D be in it!!!

I will post back with a decision.
Thanks for your input guys!!!

No worries , I've used them before for an 85 Z 50 I thought my son on . They only carry a couple of parts for it but they seem to specialize in the Buffy's . Good luck and send pics if you get it.
