HPG shocks- why are they better?

I just got my HPG front shocks.
They look very similar to the OE shocks.
They do not have any adjustment knobs and compress about as easily as the OE shocks in my hands.
Before I install them...are they really that much better than stock.

Did you get the kit? Spring and shock?

Hpgs are awesome compared to stock!
Aside from tires it was my best mod. Hpg shocks are gas filled. OEM are not

I bought the shocks without the springs.
I have the Can Am HD springs that I am going to use.
I'm not trying to be rude...just wondering why they are better.
Thanks!

I just installed the HPGs also if you push down on them they should rebound by themselves. the stock shocks have rebound damping only so if you push them in the will stay seated, so basically the springs did the work and not very well. You will see a huge difference but maybe a little stiff with the HD springs, what I did was put the rear spring and shock kit in front I now have 11.75 inches clearance to the bottom of my skid which tell me it lifted the front 1.5 inches doing so plus the nose dive is almost completely gone. Give them a rip you might like them.

Great, I'm glad to hear I didn't order the wrong shock. lol
I'll put them on tonight with the HD springs.
I already love the HD springs even on the OE shocks. With them I was actually riding my 800# Outlander with sport quads over whoops after a days worth of riding.
So, to be able to get quicker rebound now will be sweet.
I have the HD springs on 3 right now and will try setting 1 with the HPG's.

The stock shocks are Hydraulic with rebound damping only. The HPG's are a single tube gas filled shock with compression and rebound damping. HUGE DIFFERENCE...

So, I installed the shocks last night with HD springs.
I was shocked that what you guys were saying was true...there is no rebound from the OE shocks at all. If you compress them, they stay that way. WOW!
I find the feel (from riding in my field) of the HPG shocks with HD springs on the lowest setting to be comparable to the OE shocks with HD springs on setting 3.
Now what I didn't get to test is how quickly the front end rebounds going over whoops. I did not cie the front end sets a tad higher now too. I measured from the bottom of my skid plates- 11" fr; 12" rr.
With the HD springs I though the OE shocks were decent. They kept the front end from nose diving and allowed me to skim whoops. However, if the speed was too high I would find the front shocks would not be able to keep up and would force me to slow down. I am hoping the HPG's will rebound more quickly allowing me to keep the speed up.
I don't mind a bit harshness on the front end because truth be told, I ride my Outlander as a more of a sports quad than that of a slow pace.
All in all I am very impressed with how this big pig can keep up with a sports quad. People were blown away seeing this 800# behemoth flying down the trails!
And the fact it sounds like a trophy truck as all four wheels are kicking mud through the sticky stuff is just icing on the cake! :D

Nice I'm glad you believe us now :) stock shocks are crap!!
And you will be able to ride alot faster with more control due to the hpgs.

While the money tree is still healthy, is there any point in upgrading the rear shocks?
I do have a Max XT, so I believe they came with the better springs but same shocks.

I did hear one loses height with HPG's which concerns me a bit. It also appears a lot of people do not replace their back shocks.
Thanks!

I didn't. I added a spacer. Look at my thread in suspension i think called pipe spacer. I explained alot in that post about it.

Reading all this, i remember back in 07, when i bought my first rene and right away noticed how much better the shocks were from oil filled shocks.......

now just imagine having the KYB's with resi's, low and high speed compression adjustments, rebound adjustments and ride height adjustments... these are leaps and bounds ahead of the hpg's...

and now, if you want the ultimate on shocks, you look at the fox podiums, elka or hygear suspension shocks. these are even better than factory piggy's with all the adjustments.

as far as i am concerned, shocks and handling mods should be done first before any engine mods are even concidered!

if you are a seasoned rider, you will always be quicker thru a technical section than the bike with engine mods only.

How much are kyb shocks with Res??

I'd say of course more expensive shocks are better but the least expensive hpgs are probably the best baby for buck.
And I totally agree with Modding suspension before motor!
