Leak indicator hose

On my 2023 Can am defender XMR I went to check the oil before a ride, it was at the low line, so I went to looking for leaks. Never found any leaks but I did notice the clear vent line that comes off the front of the motor on the lower right side had what looks like oil in it about 3/4 of the way up. I read on here that line is called a leak indicator hose. Just wondering if anyone else has the same issue? Or if it's normal?

The next morning I went out to check the oil level again and it was back to where it should be but that clear vent hose still has what appears to be oil in it. The machine only has 20hrs on it.

Never heard of an oil leak indicator hose, on a Rotax, that's a first.

Pretty sure you're looking at the water pump weep hole hose. A little coolant in it is normal

Thank you bomb, I wasn't 100% sure exactly what it was, it looked like oil. Thanks that makes me feel better. It would be #1

That drain actually sits in a void between water pump and an oil seal. If either one is leaking, the fluid will show up in that hose.

Just keep an eye on it. Sometimes they leak a little when new or on cold mornings.

Do you think having oil or coolant in the vent line I posted warrants a trip to the dealers service dept? I know you said it can leak when new or cold mornings but my warranty will be up at the end of April. I called them and they didn't have any clue what I was talking about. Thanks for the advice!

I would drain it, then drive it as much as possible and if it fills up again I would run it to your dealer before warranty ends.

So I drained it yesterday evening. it was oil in it, then went about 10 miles on gravel for a little ride .Parked it over night and checked it this morning and it didn't have any oil in it. Took it out to my hunting property this afternoon and when I got back I checked it and it got oil in about the first 3 inches of hose again

Take it to the dealer. That means the oil seal behind water pump seal is leaking. It should not leak.

Calling it a 'leak indicator hose' works for me :)

All of my Canned Hams have had a few drops of coolant in that hose after every ride…but never oil. Get it fixed.
So I dropped it off at the dealers today, the service manager had one of the techs come out and look at it so I could explain what I had going on. He said it is either the water pump seal or the oil seal. A couple of hours later they called to tell me they will be replacing both the water pump and oil seal. But it might take a little while because they had to order both seals and some specialty tool to do the job and 1 gasket. Hopefully it will be right when I get it back.

Little update, they have had my machine since the 28th of April, called 2 weeks ago and they said they ordered parts on the 4th of may. Why it took 6 days to order parts I have no clue. But still haven't heard anything back from them and it's been almost a month.
"Why it took 6 days to order parts I have no clue. "

It is possible they had a minimum dollar amount to not pay freight charges and did not want to charge you more in freight than the parts cost. Some times there are specific days dealers are trained to place orders as well. I have zero canam dealer experience and every brand does it a bit different.

I think you meant april 28th drop off, they should have a seal in that time frame so I would call them up and if in warranty (clock is ticking) request they extend the warranty by the time they have your machine.
