iam looking at buying a 2006 outlander 800. what are the pros, and cons on these machines. just purchased a 2004 400 for the wife and i was pretty impressed with it. plus its perfect for her. i would like something with more power for myself. found one that has like 1860miles on it and in near perfect shape for $4800 just wanted to know more about the mechanical end of the machine as far as performance and durability, plus if i was to purchase one it would be used for trail riding, mud, and anything that is way fun, nothing but a play toy. thanks for the advice.

Early ones has CVT leaking issues, water pump weep hole issues and rad swelling issues. A lot were under warranty and they cleared the issues up by 08.

I had an '06 650XT, the only problems I had was a bad 2nd-ary clutch @ 500 miles, faulty winch switch, and voltage regulator. (all replaced under warranty) My CVT never leaked, and no raditor swelling. BUT even though it was a only a 650, it used all the same parts as an 800 besides the cylinders. (over simplification) On a plus side, the older 800's do not have the computer controlled govenor, and they are faster then the newer 800 models.

4800 is a little much for a 06. Get the vin and ask a dealer to run it. They will be able to tell you what up dates and service that has been done at any dealer. Depending on what they did with the machine and how it was maintained 1800 mile can be a lot. Check the a arm bushings, trailing arms for slop, the amount of slop in the drive train, grease fittings to see if they grease it. Look at the rad to see if it has swelled
