New Commander Vs. Used Commander

Hey All

So I am new to this forum and have ridden mostly Ski-Doo snowmobiles most of my life. I have owned a variety of machines in my short life however I am completely new to the Side by Side world.

So I am looking at either a RZR or a Commander. I am very much leaning toward the Commander Limited 1000 at this point, IMO it is just way more refined and stylish then your average RZR.

But today my question is are there any real differences between say a 2013 Commander or a 2014 model or even a 2015. I have tried to research the differences and it seems to all just be opinions and I have not really been able to find any real solid factual differences.

So right now I am looking at a used 2013 Commander Limited 1000 and it basically has 113km / 70miles. The dealership said they had the machine as a demo and also used it for a year of plowing snow occasionally, now they are selling it as a demo with 3 years warranty. The machine has about $6000 in accessories and they are asking about $4000 less money.

Do you guys think its worth buying a used 2012 - 2013 Commander vs. a brand new 2014 or 2015 model even if the used machine has low miles, comes with a full warranty and was just used as a demo. Any and all input would be really appreciated as I am currently in a wheelchair and I am not really capable of doing repairs on my own anymore and would probably be relying a lot on my friends or god forbid the dealership to do most of the work.

Thanks

- Patrick

2013 is the first year for power steering, 2014 & 2015 have the Tri-mode power steering (3 settings) which is a Big improvement over the regular power steering. Every year has some small changes and upgrades. 2013 and up has the QE2 front diff and I think 2014 made a change to the rear diff to quiet down the howl.

There should be some good deals on 2014 Commanders now the 2015 are out. IMO buy the newest you can afford

Well I sure like the sound of adjustable power steering options.
So I see from your thumbnail picture you have a 2015 Commander. When did you pick that up and how do you like it? I really did like the idea of more accessories for less money. But you make a great point the newer the machine the more problems have been worked out.

Thanks

I got this one about 3 months ago but I had a 2013 1000XT for about 2 years. Put almost 4000km on the 2013 and loved it but I do really like the Tri-mode power steering. Not sure if you checked out "Commander Forum" but you'll find more info on that site about Commanders then on here.

Cool thanks I will definitely join that forum.

Wow your new 2015 looks great, were they both xt's? What made you decide to buy a new Commander? Did you have any problems with your last machine?

I will also post this question on the Commander forum, thanks for the heads up.

Cheers

No I didn't have any trouble with my 2013. Both are 1000XT the 2013 was Magnesium Metalic and the 2015 is Brushed Aluminum. The local dealer found someone looking for a used commander and I got a good price for it so I traded up. Had 4000km on it and I figured the value would drop soon.

Even if it doesn't seem to need it right now, I'd try to work a free CVT belt into the deal if possible. Plowing snow can be hard on them. (If you decide to go with the 13)
