First off, all the Pistons on the calipers must be pushed back in or the pads will not go in properly and definitely would not slide on the rotor and back on to the bike mounting points, so anytime new pads are put in the pistons have to be pushed in, or they just plain won't fit.

It sucks that it's the case but I also think they topped off my break fluid and took up any available space for the pucks to retract.
That wont matter......when you compress the caliper pistons, the fluid should leak out of the reservoir.

Got ya. Well I'll definitely start checking the brakes after every ride.
