Tires!! Skid plates, either Richocet (aluminum) or Baltic Iron (high density plastic). Spring spacers for the front shock to eliminate the dive or else purchase better shocks.

What kind and brand of tires would be best?

Maxxis Bighorns are pretty popular these days. I've had some on my 2004 since 2004 and they're still good today.
Or STI Rocktane 8ply. Very similar to Maxxis w 2 more plies.
Welcome to the site!!
I have a 13' 650 XT and i run STI Outback XT tires. They do well at everything, just don't ride the road too much or it'll chew them up fast. And get the spring spacer for the front mine dives alot
I've got the outback xt tires on my outty xt and they are amazing. Best mod i've done so far
Stainless, what model Bighorns? There are ten different ATV models.
Hell if I remember. I don't think there were lots of models back then. I'll look when I get home
I looked the other night. No model on them. I'm pretty sure that is all there was back then.
The original Bighorn or 2.0's are good,, your riding terrain will dictate your tires, but if you're riding through any amount of mud the BH's suck, and cleaning the tires off are a PITA.

I agree.. They're not mudding tires. I ride mostly mountain areas and creeks. Always go around the mud holes. Maybe that's why my Suzuki is 11 years old and still runs great
