Off to a bad start

Picked up our new Commander XT 1000R yesterday to replace our Polaris Ranger. The salesman gave me a quick run through then had me go in to sign paperwork while he loaded the unit on my trailer. About 45 minutes into our 90 minute ride home I happened to glance at my side mirror and saw what looked like a piece of plastic go sliding across the other lane. We turned around and found the access cover for the coolant had broke free and the lucking part was missing. Back to the dealer who quickly replaced it and was very apologetic. Things happen and they made it good so no real harm. Once we were home we took it out for a quick spin and about 15 minutes in I saw the speedometer read 0 and we were getting PO501 and PO500 codes. Back home we went where a gave it a quick hose down to get the dirt and little bit of mud off her and noticed one of the reflectors sitting in the driveway. I reattached it with 3m body molding tape so it isn't going anywhere now.
We are very happy with it and it is a huge improvement over the Ranger for comfort and sport so I am hoping that this bought of bad luck is over. Dealer is going to look it over in the morning and I am hoping for a simple fix as we have plans to use it Sunday with a group of my wife's family.

Welcome to the site, sorry to read of your issues.

No excuses, but it's become rather common knowledge that QC and dealer prep have fallen way off in recent years. I'll offer the whole "catch-up" from the global shutdown as explanations, BRP and dealers are scrambling to provide units to keep up with demand, lack of quality workers in the dealerships, etc., and you get these kinds of after the sale problems to deal with.

For whatever it's worth, the codes, search the site here, they seem to point to low voltage or battery connection issues, I've read of those more than once. Batteries and or cables not tight or good and healthy, these bikes do really weird things in low-voltage situations.

Hopefully your selling dealer will address all these and you're on your way to trouble-free enjoyment.

I work for an auto manufacturer as part of the local leadership team and understand staffing issues. Not here to bash BRP or my dealer at all. What I gauge them on is their response to the issues and so far so good. I wish the dealer network was a bit larger so I didn't have to travel 90 minutes one way for repairs but I knew that before I bought it so that is on me. This is my first BRP product. Grew up with Artic Cat and Honda products and made the jump to the Polaris because the Ranger was the standard at the time. I am hoping for the Honda quality and reliability but with a bump up in performance and looks. Time will tell. Thanks for replying.

Update: Dealer replaced the speed sensor and ordered a new rear bumper because the first one was damaged from the factory. Very happy with their part in this. We took it to an ATV park Sunday and put it to the test. It was much more comfortable and performed great. I miss the visibility of the Ranger but that was the trade off for the comfort and performance. Glad we went with the 1000R if for nothing more than the extra clearance but the added HP is always welcome.
