Hi i'm new to the forum, I can't figure out what's going on w/ my quad. It sat in the garage for a year and when i started and let it warm up, it has no power. It feels like the choke is on, but it's not, if i put the choke on it actually runs a little better. I tore the carborator apart and cleaned everything and it still does the same thing. I noticed that when i rev it up the black slider thing is moving up and down really fast, not sure if that is normal. I put my hand partially over the intake of the carb and it sounded much better when i rev'd it up. can anyone tell me what direction to go from here?

Bad fuel seems most likely. Possible fouled plug. Try new fuel and a set of spark plugs.

I had already drained the fuel and put new in. last night I got a new plug and it is still doing the same thing. It definitely seems like it's starving for fuel. if I choke it half way it runs much better. any other ideas?

A COUPLE THINGS TO CHECK WOULD BE SPARKPLUG, AIRCLEANER, FUEL FILTER (oops, caps was on).Maybe try some Seafoam fuel "conditioner",make sure battery cables are way tight.
If it's still not right, check the fuel pump pressure and fuel tank for water/dirt/whatever.
Might need to clean the carb. :smilietwocents:

Start the bike again & switch the petcock to reserve , this will draw the fresh fuel through the bottom ( & less used ) filter in the tank . If your problem disappears the top pickup screen is plugged & will need changing.
These BSR carbs have some sort of heating element in them that I don't fully understand yet that seems to encourage condensation within . You say you cleaned the carb .. I thought I did too until I fully disassembled ,flipped over & backflushed with good gas . Here's the result : WATER ,not in the bowl ( it was good ) All little h2o droplets .

still having problems

2005 outlander max XT 400, changed plug, cleaned carb, new gas from different tank, bypassed fuel lines fom orig. tank, put new gas to the input of orig. fuel pump. Could it be the spark?, I put two different timmig lights on spark plug wire and they could not pick up the spark while it was running. If i let idle for a while and it may rev up one time and then cut out and try and dye if I keep the trying to rev up.
Any more ideas??? will take carb apart again

If your fuel system is set , & it appears it is , the only thing you haven't checked in that department is the fuel pump .That's one thing I have not yet had to tear into on my bike so I can't help much there. But if it idles ,like you said ,then dies when you hit the throttle ,it still sounds fuel ( pump ) related to me .

Have you had the battery load-tested ? & are connections tight ?

If you still suspect the pump is at fault , you could always rig up some kind of old lawnmower gas tank arrangement & perch it somewhere above the bike & feed the carb direct ( so it's gravity-fed rather than trying to have the fuel-pump push the fuel "uphill" )

One more suggestion , if I may , open the front cover ( where the fuses are ) & check all connections for corrosion . apply dielectric grease to all .
I have heard oxidation on these connectors causes all kinds of problems.
