My 08 outlander 800 will be at about 3600 rpm before it moves. And it won't go anywhere in high or reverse. And if I ride it for more than a couple minutes you have to have the gas almost all the way down to move at all. And then it just putters along. I'm thinking fuel pump. Any other ideas on what the problem could be?

Also, I put it in reverse and got no response. RPMs didn't move at all. I could hear the belt or clutches or something trying to turn though.

I actually just got the bike. The guy I got it from said he just had a new belt put on there and a new fuel pump. So that's Whats making me wonder.

First thought would be clutches and belt also.

You didn't clarify if the engine was reving up properly. If the engine sounds fine and revs up, then it has to be belts or clutching. If the engine runs like crap, it's not the belts or clutching.
