I can confirm that the stock rear springs on the max has a higher spring rate then the rear springs on the Fox upgrade package. I went from maximum preload with the upgrade rear springs for just riding solo to 4.75" of thread showing and 5.25" with my wife on the rear with the original rear springs reinstalled. Neither of us are light by any means. Yesterday we were out and hit a few whoops hard and never bottomed out yet had a comfortably ride. She doesn't go out riding with me much since the grand kids came along.

Hey guys.. Just wanted to give another update on the fox shocks. I was gonna soften up the front suspension but I figured I would leave it for 1 more ride in the stock position. So I went out for a night ride last night with some friends at a place we ride on a regular basis. So I knew very well what spots in the trails the old shocks had problems handling. So I made it a point to hit them harder. I can honestly say the fox shock made a huge difference. Very smooth, felt like the quad just stuck to the ground,no bounce and always felt in control. Sorry it's hard to describe the exact feel, but I can tell you for me it was worth the purchase. :aniwheeler6:

Was the rear end of the Max unstable with the upgrade shock and spring? And how do the front springs of the original shock compare to the upgrade front springs? In pictures the upgrade spring looks bigger than the originals?

They just bottomed out real easy with my wife on. Once i replaced the rear springs that issue was solved. I add about an extra 1/2" preload when we ride 2 up. The front dive that was present with the stock front shocks disappeared with the fox upgrade shocks/springs.

Yeah I understand that the bottoming issue is resolved with these but I was wondering how the front end ride compares before and after, is the ride more rough due to the extra bottoming resistance?

Are these re-buildable?

I ride aggressively so i have the preset a bit higher then what you would normally set them at. Lots of info on how to proper adjust shocks online. I personally find they ride fine for a couple of hours of hard riding then they get "soft" feeling. When I change the suspension package again, I will get shocks that have rebound and compression adjustments like the piggy back Fox podiums or Elkas. The 2016 and prior years of teh XT-P models have that setup. 2017 has a simplified adjustment scheme, 3 settings. Too bad as they hada great product if they were setup right.

Having said that, my daughter and Son-in-law just picked up a used 2016 XT Max 650. stock shocks on it are way better then my stocks were. no diving on hard braking or cornering. Obviously BRP has done something recently.

Yeah the Generation 1 machines had a front end dive/bottoming issue and for Gen 2 BRP says they used anti-dive geometry I think that's how they said it. I don't have too many complaints about my gen 2 suspension but I am considering the 500$ upgrade shocks so I can have more compression and rebound damping. I don't think I need the Elka stage 4 at this point. Funny, BRP's page showed that the 500$ shocks were not for my machine.

New Fox shocks arrived today, two of them were in their own plastic bags but the other two were packed bare and put next to each other and had some spots where the paint wore through from friction. That's a stupid way to pack and ship them. Bought them on Ebay from www.powersportsxpres.com for $510.27 total.
Also, 8 M10 flange lock nuts were included.

Yes that is the number I have. That number should work on amazon and ebay.

Sorry just saw you question. Nothing really to report. I've done a couple more rides with them and have no complaints. I'm going away in 2 weeks for a weekend ride and I was going to change the setting just to see how it performs now that I've done enough riding with them in the stock position. I'll update. Also I seen you purchased. Hope they work out for you.:th_smiliethumbsup:

Did any of you grease the little sleeve that the bolts go through?

i didn't grease mine...i usually grease everything i can but i figured grease is also a dirt magnet so in that application i though it was best not to.

I didn't grease them. The stock ones didn't have any grease in them. So I just put them on as they came. But I guess it couldn't hurt.
