polaris 425 magnum hard to start

i just bought a 1995 polaris 425 magnum. i was told it was diagnosed by the dealer as having a bad camshaft. the complaint with the atv that sent it to the shop was hard to start. the shop took the head off the engine and faulted the cam.

the cam lobes are within spec and look good.the dealer said the decompression system was faulty.

has anyone ever heard of this? i dont see he need to replace the cam as it is not worn badly. any help would be appreciated

I had a 335 sportsman and it was the stator. Look under the rope pull cover and see if it is full of crud etc. if it is chances are that is the culprit. Water and mud have a way of getting in there and fouling things up.:2cent:

thank you for your response. i bought an upper end gasket kit and am going to put it back together to see what it really does. i will keep you posted when i find out what is wrong.

as for as the magnito goes, a new one was just put into this atv. it looks like the shop makes a guess and then buys a part to see what happens.
