If you tap the throttle a little bit it will bypass the engine brake. You may also be able to bypass the engine braking with some clutch work.

 

Does it have multiple levels of engine braking as well?
Not sure if its like my Outlander, but I have 3 levels of IEB Intelligent Engine Braking.
Maximum is really too much, I usually use medium, or minimum.
