Consider some decent shackles and a snatch block that could pull double duty for the truck as well, a long version of the 6ft tree saver you have too can be handy.

 

I got lots of shackles and blocks. Been pulling downed and dead trees out of the forest for many years.

 

Looks like rope vs strap is not a real factor. I'm thinking strap as it can be rolled up tight for storage. The ropes look like they can take up a fair bit of space.

I prefer a strap because it can be stored much easier than a rope. What you need depends on the vehicle you are using it for, and you may wish to buy more than one, because the truck would need a much heavier strap than an ATV (30,000 lbs vs 10,000 lbs). Even using a strap, a 30,000 rated 20' or 30' strap is going to be quite bulky for an ATV. I keep different recovery gear in each of my vehicles. In my ATV I keep a 20' 10,000 lb rated strap, and both hard and soft shackles. In my Defender I keep 2 30' kinetic straps rated at 17,000 lbs and at 30,000 lbs.; 2 soft shackles; 2 hard shackles; a 100' winch extension rope that is not kinetic; and a snatch block.

The All Top recovery kit you linked looks good. I think the All Top products are the same as Gear America, but with a different brand name.

 

When i started riding i used to carry 2 straps and a rope... Now im down to just my one strap/tree saver. In 8 years i had only used the rope once to get towed us a hill covered in snow. The rest of the time we use our winches to get us out of trouble. A 3x30 strap is going to be big to store i would look for a 2x20 or 2x15

 

I agree it is a lot to store. I might weave it thru the front rack. I don't use the racks all that much, and as a rope or strap carrier it might serve well. And the racks can still be used with the ropes sitting beneath any cargo.

 

I’ve heard good things about the Ditch Pig 1/2” recovery rope for ATVs.

 

I went with this. Same as before but only 20 feet, and no shackles. I gots plenty of shackles.
