My 2012 Outlander was doing that exact thing it's currently at the dealer for that issue now. I'll update you when I hear something. Been there 2 weeks still no word..............but Iv been outta town so I haven't been chomping at the bit about it, but I'll be getting anxious soon to have it back. Ill get back to you when I know

Mine would leak after a hard run when it was really getting a work out and my coolant tank was a lil low but its a slow leak and doesn't always do it. And took about a while for the coolant to get to the low mark on the tank but It was getting worse as I actually started smelling coolant on a hard ride and that was this winter even being 10 degrees outside.

 

I'm full of dumb questions today. But here goes anyways.

Is your rad overflow bottle vent line just above where the leak is ?

 

No It doesn't cause I wondered the same thing, but that vents down in front of the motor by the frame. I wish that was the reason.

 

I think the leak is from that screw ontop of the thermostat housing.
not sure if I am right. I have all the tools to check it pressure test the cooling system and such. Last ride I did was just into my shop at work to wash them off, So I know that its been leaking since then. Means it is a slow leak. I don't think its nothing more then needing to re-seal that screw onto of the thermostat housing. Still I am very interested in hearing what you find of course. Like I said both my 1000s are doing it and both where just washed after being in snow and such.I will call the dealer tommarow and see if they have bumped into it as well. Not to worried about it right now just a little surprise I bumped into. Kind of a silly design to tell you the truth, Should have made the seal dish into the hole so more of the O-ring is being use to seal the coolant off.

 

Let me know if that fixes the issue please.

 

Ill take it into the dealer let them mess around with it, But I can clearly see that's where its leaking from on my bike, Its trailed right down from there. I plan on taking it in after my next ride so might be a while till you hear back but I will let you guys know, and ill call my dealer tommarow as well

 

i had the same thing happend to me i just tighted the bleeder bolt a bit and it fine now

Most dealers will take a month to fix it, so try it yourself first. I HATE dealers..

 

well I will put it under a pressure test and then tighten the bolt till it stops leaking. I called the dealer they said to tighten it up. If you ask me its a silly design, that seal should be dished into the thermostat housing. wondering if anyone thread seals it in or anything like that as well

 

I wouldn't just in case the thread locker drips inside it.

No just tight it a bit not too much it should be fine

 

Oh and check the other thermostat on the other side might be leaking there too mine was leaking on both

 

Does any body know of an aftermarket housing to fix the issue, i got done plowing with my Xmr 1k the other day and noticed steam coming from the plastic near the shifter and could smell anti-freeze. i haven't taken the plastic off yet but i assume thats the issue.

 

So the cap was allowing the coolant to come out of the overflow hose that runs down to the bottom of the frame??? Cause I noticed coolant in that line a few times my self and also where thermostat is. Kinda sounds like minor fixes. Was the cap not allowing pressure out of the coolant tank, in turn forcing coolant out as it gets hot or is that not even possible??

 

Not to wake this thread but I was just looking at my machine the other day too and noticed a coolant leak in the exact same spot. Google'd Renegade 1000 Coolant leak and up came this post. I was thinking it was likely the bleeder screw, is that what you guys found it to be? Or the bolts for the housing too? I still have lots of coolant, just happened to catch my eye on coolant around the housing.
