Shifter......mod?

I was thinking the other day about weather or not to cut out that "guide" that makes you put the shifter in nuetral b4 going into reverse or high. I was thinking it would just be so much smoother to just slide from park to low and visa versa. Not a big issue i just feel like my hand is all over the place when i shift haha. Anyone else thought about this or has done it. First inwas thinking it was a safty thing but then thought mabe the trans has to engage in to nuatral position b4 it can go into reverse or foward gear.

A lot of guys are doing this on there King Quads. Iv'e seen several pics. Makes shifting easier if your plowing or doing a lot of back and forth work. I don't do much of that so it's not a mod for me but I can see where it might be useful.
I would highly recommend not doing that... If your ever riding and you hit a bump and your knee or a branch taps that shifting lever and throws the transmission into say reverse you could have a big issue.... It's like backing up with a car and throwing it in drive while still rolling backwards not good. It's good to let the engine reach idle rmps before shifting. Just my 2 cents
If I was going to mod the shifter at all it would be a complete relocate. I find for plowing, reaching down to shift between Low and Reverse my forearm often comes in contact with the throttle. While I like the position it is in, it's not well placed for such actions.
