Small Oil Leak-Rear Seal Help >?

1997 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  firemanJBI
So after a good swamp ride two weeks ago I finally got to fixing my XMR. The belt exploded on me causing me to tow it home. Installed replacement belt last night no prob. Buuuuut found oil leaking out of the rear "main seal"? This is where the rear drive shaft enters the motor. Fairly good leak, need to find this seal. Can seem to identify it online. Seems to be fairly common. Anyone know p/n or link ? Help is appreaciated.

If you are talking about the seal that is behind the primary clutch in the PTO cover is it 420631933 we have them here for $26 shipped.
I looked at it last night. Its just in front of a 4 bolt flange at the front of the rear drive shaft. Seems to be sealing from rear of motor ?
that didn't sound right lol. Where the rear drive shaft enters the motor. that's where the leak is
AH HA. You are talking about the rear GEARBOX seal. You will need 420950089 your local dealer should be able to help. Cheers.
thanks for your help Jaredp. your sure on that? I can see this seal from the outside of the motor / gearbox? near/behind a 4 bolt flange where rear drive shaft enters back of motor. Not questioning your knowledge just try to be clear as Im gonna order the part you give me. thanks
You will want some black RTV too. The plate is sealed (more like glued) to the gear box. When doing this make sure to clean the gearbox very well and use only enough to cover the area. If you use too much it will spill into the output bearings, no good. This isn't a rear differential cover on a 1978 camaro it only needs a little as the machining is much more precise.
thanks a lot pal
How difficult is it to replace ? Pull the shaft? Just loosen the rear diff up and shocks/axels ?
