That said, I have modified mine with delrin wheel holders and use a NoMar bar.

 

I bought one, most frustrating piece of crap I've ever used. And I like HF stuff usually. I was changing a car tire so maybe ATV tires would be easier, but sometimes they are so soft and flexible it's actually a challenge.

I would not recommend that thing, felt so good to throw mine in a dumpster.

I mostly do race tires. Probably 30-40 a year. Car tires are a b***. The mods made it so much better, but race rubber is soft.
That said, I wouldn't buy one.

 

I bought one of those to avoid having to lift heavy LT tires and wheels on the Hunter tire machine just to break a bead.

Tested it on a 17" Ram dually wheel that still had the OE tire from '17 on it. It worked, but only with one person holding the frame on the ground by standing on it, and with a 5' extension on the handle.

Ground down the sharp edges on the part that touches the tire, and one of these days I'll weld a piece of 1/4" rod to it to make it kinder yet to the tire.

So to answer the OP's question, yes it does work. But I haven't tried it on a small and light setup yet. Those are easy enough to put on the tire machine.

I have a 2016 Renegade Xxc and changed those tires out on it with the Harbor Freight unit with no problem. I bought it as the tire shops charge so much to change out the bead lock tires. It works just fine to break the bead off the rim and with the bead lock removed off the tire comes right off. My kids have used it on a car tire but it was not effective. I am glad I bought it and will be using it again soon on my front tires.

 

You can change beadlocks without any special tools, those are super easy because the tire comes right off the front.

 

Hi-Lifts work quite well for breaking beads with. Just need something reasonably heavy to "lift".

 

Ive Used the kickstand of my motorcycle to pop beads too.
