well, I brought in my 2013 commander limited for her first service. $129.00 for a new belt. had a flat spots in her . not happy with only 113 miles. has this happened to anyone else? they told me I need to use low gear more often. plus, stay away from the sport key unless the conditions are begging for it. lol. plus, I blew out my tire. very unhappy camper.
o' I have a 2006 Yamaha rhino. belt is still strong in her.

Rhino has what maybe 40HP? The Commander has 85HP. Like the dealer said you have to use low more often. These 1000 have so much torque they will ruin a belt in a hurry. When under 10-15mph for any amount of time use low range.

I run 85-90% in low with my XMR... High gear is great on flat and fast. but hills, trails, dirt, rocks, mud, low gear is a belt saver

I don't even have the XMR and with the stock size tires i currently have i am mostly in Low as well, unless I'm on a gravel road or pavement I am in low...

I remember from day 1 when they drove it up on the trailer, the machine would buck and chutter while driving slow. when I got it home I noticed it myself. I called the dealer and they said they all do this. they said to keep driving and will look at it on the first service. well, I brought her in and they told me the belt is shot. I brought up the conversation I had with them in the fall and they didn't remember such thing. basicly, I got screwed and it was my fault to not accept the machine until they looked at it. the dealer should have known the machine was wrong when driving her onto the trailer. I say it was a defect in the belt.
Also, talk about cheap. I paid over $22,000 for the limited and they put on cheap 4 ply tires. already had a blow out. thin skin tires.

Then I would have to agree something was wrong from the get go as far as the belt goes. I bought a little atv for my son off a gentleman that was having the same issues with his commander that I believe he just bought not that long ago

Same boat

I have a 2013 Commander with 35 hours on it. I have now gone through 2 belts on this machine. The last belt was burned up trying to go up a small hill on my property. This is a hill the my son's DS 90 zips right up. The only thing my dealer can tell me is that I ..... wait for it... Drive to SLOW! and thats why it's burning up belts. At the cost of $12,000 I would think I could drive it at any speed and not have any trouble.

I called CanAm "Customer Service" Yesterday. I asked them to help me find a solution to the problem. All they can say is we don't cover belts. but the belt is NOT the problem. There is something wrong with the clutch! Then they hung up on me. :th_smiliefrustrated

I have 3 CanAm products in my garage right now and I can't get the company to help me out. My Commander has been in the shop more than it's been on the trails.

i'd like to know what you guys are doing with your units, I had a 2012 1000 commander with 28" silverbacks went through 2 belts in 2500 km one was because the prescreen for the cvt was full of snow and the second one was probally due to big tires and a heavy foot.

now I've got over a 1000km on a maverick with 30" zilla's no belt or clutch issues

maybe you need some driving lessons

Hey don't feel bad.

My buddy brought home a maverick 1000 Friday.

soon as it was off the trailer we noticed the speedo didn't work. we checked it and the speedo wires were all chewed up by a RAT!!!! (bought it in farm country)

well, we start out, 3 miles in to it, he is ripping it up, blows the rear tire sidewall open (that was his own fault).

we go and fix it, 3 hours later, right rear axle took a **** and snapped in near the diff and from that happening, the belt blew at the same exact time!!!!!

and get this.....ZERO MILES ON IT!!!!

I cant wait to hear what the dealer has to say about this!!!

same popo different pile, go to polaris forums you will see the same type of conversation, but you would think a Maverick would be a little less susceptible to bumps and jumps, considering it is the sports model, however the commanders are good machines, got 300km sofar, drove it like I stole it, got cracked fenders cuz i was squeezin in between trees, but i am loving it, can do anything a quad can do except maybe squeeze between trees hehe. mustve got lucky with the tires hear stories of people blowing theirs, got a patch kit, hoping to blow up tire beyond repair, good excuse for purchasing some 28" Mega Mayhems lol.

I bought my commander about 3 months ago and have been more then happy with it. When they tell you to use low gear often, that shouldn't be a problem. I machine will run 39-40 mph in low gear unless I hit gravel or pavement I rarely use high. I let my father who rides a RZR-S drive it the second day I bought it and he is used to riding his RZR in high gear all the time. I advised him to use mine in low but, "dad knows best" therefore he smoked the heck out of my belt. Afterwards, for a month or two it seemed fine so I ordered a new belt just to be safe. In the past couple weeks it started to slip bad so I figured it was glazed over and I should replace it. When I tore into it the entire CVT housing was full of oil. There was nothing wrong with my belt but it did have a bad seal. I was very unhappy but then I realized that I had a 2 year warranty on the bike so I didn't care I just took it to them. They promised me a new belt with the repair.

Don't own a SxS, but my renegade is on the stock belt, almost 3300 miles, and stock tires were play, got 2l miles out of them with having to replace one rear tire at about 400 miles, but that's what a stock tire is, everybody has their bad luck, **** I had to replace a tranny and two diffs, half of my issues are caused by the dealer I take it to!

Commander clutches chew belts. And, so do the aftermarket Commander clutches. HP? Nissan cars have more HP and don't chew their CVT belts!

for the 10 or so people here having belt/clutch issues there are 1000 that are just fine. its true that operating the machine in a certain way can prolong the life of belts and i know that isn't the answer people want to hear but i personally believe there is an element of for lack of better words "luck" to powersports.
sometimes you come out with a winner and sometimes not so much.

Yepper I learned from friends of mine with Kawi Teryx's to use low range more than you are used to with the SxS. Also I think guys are putting the Maverick belt on when they change it. I have had my commander almost 5 months and so far so good on the belt side of things. The tires were a disappointment I agree, 4 ply WTF.

I need to change my belt. After 500 miles its finally starting to chatter on take off! And type of belt better? i hear the Maverick belt is a upgrade but im not sure it works? I have the 2011 X model.

I have never had to replace a belt on any of my Can Am Outlanders or Renegades and have put thousands of miles on every one of them. I have owned a few RZRs and only replaced on belt and it was my fault. I was in a little race and screwed up and didn't take the time to put it in low when I came to a stop so I knew it would come apart sooner than it normally would. Then, I bought a Maverick, 1450 miles later the belt came apart. I had to lay on my back in the mud to remove the skid plate so I could get the bottom bolts out of the cover to change the belt. That was the moment I knew I would sell it and buy a XP1K. Yes, they are having belt issues as well but at least I can change one in about 10 min instead of an hour and I don't have to lay on the ground to do it. I am keeping my 1000 Rene but my Maverick is going to find another home.

So your selling the mav because the belt blew at close to 1500 miles? just so you can spend almost 20K just to buy a machine that has belt issues also.....Hmmmmmmm no comment:th_smiliefrustrated
