water pump seal install error

I just installed a new water pump seal and oil seal on my 2010 outlander and after I took it for a test run I noticed it is now leaking oil from the weep hole tube. I question is which wY does the oil seal insert over the pump shaft. There is a a closed end and and open end on the seal?? Maybe I put it in backwards?

Open end goes towards the pump housing. You should be looking at the closed side when installed.

That's how I installed it. Not sure why I'm losing so much oil from the weep hole? ?

So I took the seals out and it looks like it there is some nicks in the housing where the oil seal seats. it's the only thing I can figure to why oil is leaking through the weep hole. Can any one suggest a sealant to use that give a good seal
