Exhaust heat shield?

 

Can I rip the whole heat shield off or will it just burn plastics. I do have a fuel tuner so the temps are a lot cooler than stock

 

For the sake of just diagnosing the issue, you could remove them, sure. I wouldn't leave them off, me...

 

Mechanics Stethescope. Listen at idle and you should be able to pinpoint the source.

 

Really sounds like rear cam chain tensioner....

Can-Am 570 Engine Noise

My boss has a 570 with about 800 hours. It makes this noise as you rev the engine and then let it decelerate. It makes it cold or hot and has done it the last 150 hours or so. It did get run upside down but not for very long. Piston slap? Rod knock? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

It does sound like the first videos. But only when driving get that rattle noise. Is it a big fix. I’m not mechanically inclined.

 

First pull left side plastic engine cover. On the rear cylinder on the back of the cylinder there is a tensioner. You will be able to see it between exhaust shield and clutch. See if it has spun out of its home. If you read through the other thread you can see what I am talking about.

Its actually not to hard but it is fairly mechanical. There are two ways to fix it. The first way is you can get away with just pulling the valve cover, and setting motor to tdc then pulling cam tensioner out and putting it back in. Or the better way is to pull valve cover, clutches, exhaust, left crankcase cover and maybe head depending on the condition of the guides. The one guide can only be replaced if you pull head. You will also need a couple of special tools and service manual. If you want more info ask and I can either make a video or a more detailed post.

That’s way to technical for me. Crappy time with Christmas around the corner to bring it into a stealership and pay the 140$ an hour. And I’m not 100 percent sure it’s that but it definitely sounds similar.

 

Do I need to drain the oil to check and adjust vavles and to check the cam chain tensioner?

 

No. Just pull the left plastic side cover and pull the exhaust shield and you will be able to see the tensioner.

What am I looking for though? If it’s all screwed in and good do I bother pulling the valve cover aligning to tdc and pulling out the tensioner spring and reinstalling?

 

All you need to do is see if it is still screwed in. If it is then don't worry about it. But from the noise I hear I am fairly certain that is the issue.

Just had someone come look at it and it doesn’t appear to be the cam chain. But I did notice on the rear cylinder some oil on the cam tensioner bolt

 

do I need to remove valve cover and go tdc to remove tensioner spring and install new O ring?

Not sure what the noise is but it’s been driving me nuts for months now and can’t figure out what’s causing it.

Did you ever figure out what was causing your noise? I have a similar noise. It seems like the clutch but not positive

No that sounds more like chain rattle. Mine sounds more like a heat shield, but I haven't been able to track it down yet. I'm just going to remove them temporarily and see if that helps or at least makes it easier to pinpoint

 

Yup, stand behind the machine while someone else revs it and and you might see the rear exhaust shield vibrating. My 2019 did it at certain RPMS and it just needed a little tightening.

 

Figured out the rattle on mine.. it's the exhaust springs vibrating. the ones off the head pipe right above the clutch box
