Worth upgrading tie rods?

1400 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jmason
My 09 outty has a loose outer tierod. I've done searches on here but haven't seen many issues. I don't mud, just aggressive trail ride. Is it worth it to upgrade to American stars or high lifter or just use a stock replacement end?

If you haven't bent the rod yet I would just but a new end.
I had 2 bad ones at 3,000 miles. I replaced them with American Star and have put 13,000 more miles on and they are still fine. My riding style is allot like yours. If you put on allot of miles, They are worth every penny.
Don't bother with All Balls; IMO they are junk
I like the American stars over oe s cause they typically just bend not break and not stranded on the trail. And being solid can bend back in a vice and ride normal all weekend.

Never had an issue on my reny but did do the upgrade due to past race quad experiences.
I bought the 12 mm American Star tie rod ends and connectors. Ive got less than a year and 500 miles on them and the boots are junk and 2 of the tie rods are loose. I emailed American Star asking if I could BUY new boots for the remaining good ends before they too are junk and they said no. Needless to say I'm not the most impressed. With my riding style I probably should have went straight for the heim joint ends but I'm not sure if I'll buy from them again.
