Xtp into a mudder

Has anybody here turned their xtp into a more mud friendly bike? Im looking to build myself a solid trail/mud and im looking for opinions I was thinking about building an Xt but with the extra bells and whistles im thinking it would be cheaper to build an Xtp

a lot of folks have. that has really been the #1 topic on these forums since the 800ccs came out in '06. that and the hot pipes, overheating on the G1s. it got a lot easier after BRP got onboard with the XMRs.
I just bought my new xtp in march, and so far I did snorks, rad kit, exhaust, pc5 and put 30" tires on. Next I'm just waiting to order my qsc and stm clutches. And then in the fall my portal gear box lift kit to run my 31" laws, then I should pretty much done every mod I want for now.
I was dead set on an xmr because I love deep riding and playing in the mud but after a lot of thought if i'm gonna be completley honest with myself most the people I ride with dont usually go any deeper then the tires and generally stick to trails so I think i'd be a lot better off building a bike that will destroy them on the trails and absolutley annihilate them in the mud

So they make gear lifts for bikes? I was under the impression they were still just a sxs thing right now
I was set on the XMR just because of the looks. After doing some research I went with the XTP and don't have any regrets

1000xtp max, before it even came home I had the dealer put on mega mayhem 28", right after rad kit and snorkeled.

Honestly I dont go deeper than the rack, but after the first season of clogged radiators the kit was required! BTW...there are some trails we have up north which are shared with full size trucks and jeeps, so you can always find some seriously deep water to get lost in.
To each their own. Mud specific tires and set ups are not good trail bikes and vice versa. Build up what you think your needs are.
I have ridden through lots of deep water holes, up and occasionally over the headlights without issue. The only real issues I have had in mud holes is being high centered with 26 inch Kendas HTRs. No problems with the CVT to date.
After the last 2 rides with the Rad relocate, I highly recommend it. My rad would have been caked in mud long before the end of the last ride. Also, it improves airflow underneath where the rad was, the heat would build up and cause DPS to heat up and fade. I had the DPS on Max most of day.
If you are going to get Elkas, go with the Stage 4. I have the Stage 2s the factory set high speed dampening is great for the fast rough stuff, but the slow speed dampening is a little rough, while rock crawling. I would back it off a little and lose a little on the handling dept and gain some more plushness.

Its not that easy. If you go and throw huge tires on and maybe a lift, you aren't going to beat your friends on the trails. In the mud, heck yes, but if you could have BOTH, every manufacturer would have designed that already!

Pick your priority and set it up accordingly.
I was thinking set up an xtp with a rad kit, snorkels and clutches some good good all around tires like zillas or outback xt's then let the can am power take care of the rest. Most people I know ride stuff like Honda or Polaris 500's so it's not hard to blow them out of the water With my xt 500 so if I put the mods into a power house like an 800r or 1000 I would decimate them lol

Nope not anymore. Rock crusher just released them for the quads. And I heard a rumor that super atv is working on one with out the gear reduction.
Not an XTP but

I did modify mine to mud check out my add ons. ATV still handles on trails and muds much better than most (except a strickly mud set up atv)
wider and higher tires kind of balance out for stable ride going hgher without wider is nuts!
Ostacruiser I believe did an xtp and turned it into a mudder. It is his wife's gray bike.

How do you like them stage 4's? Ive been on the fence about if I should get the xtp which comes with the fox suspension or if i should get an xt and throw some stage 4's in it
I love them , quad handles way better no nose dive, you can hammer over the bumps. It handles like a whole new machine, I got then while the sale was on paid 1550 for them here in canada. I've never had the fox shocks so I can't compare but mgram has had both on an outlander maybe he might chime in. I did learn one thing next time I buy a quad suspension will be one of my top priorities.
Might be cheaper to buy the xtp version, as long has the fox shocks have all the same adjustability. Only difference would be the elkas are more set up for you weight.
