Help!! This unit has been extremely well maintained and has been stored inside for its' entire life. Only about 250 hours on the unit. 99% of the usage on it is around our place doing the usual stuff like hauling firewood etc. It has NEVER been in the mud. It has been dealer serviced since new. The biggest issue I've had with it was with the start button one time and after replacing it all was fine. It has a space in our carport and has NEVER dripped a drop of ANY fluid.

So,,,the other day I hopped in it and ran up to my shop (about 500 yards) got what I needed , ran back to the house and then back to the shop and THEN I noticed the temp bars all the way up and the check engine light on and then in a few seconds the limp mode came on. I had , years before, installed a fan over ride switch on it ( Texas is hot ) so I threw that on and scooted back down the hil and parked it. No "smell" of any kind. I let it cool off for a couple of hours and then started it again and sure enough the temp bars started running up after a couple of minutes and I parked it.

I want to take it to the dealer to fix it but I'd like some thoughts on what MIGHT be the issue. I looked at an exploded diagram and could not find a thermostat???? in the parts diagram. The dealer said it might be a "temp sensor".

Any input appreciated.

Did you check coolant level? Commanders and Can Am in general loose some coolant from the clamps on hoses.

Remember how the G1s had problems with puffed rads? Mine did, and overheated a few times.

Has this ever happened with BRP SxS?
Not that I have ever heard of. The sxs came along after they had the rad issues sorted out.

Much more common for those to leak at the plastic "T" connctions.

Ok guys. Here's what I found. I bought a gallon of the correct "orange" anti-freeze and put a small amount in the "cap" filler along with some in the overflow resevoir. Fired the machine up and set a stop watch on it. Ran it at 2000 RPM and in three minutes the first temp bar showed. In two more minutes the third and fourth showed. No CEL or "limp mode". I then ran it for another minute and the fifth bar showed and fan came on. That was ten minutes. I shut it off and in an hour came back and did this again. The second time I only got a SMALL amount in the filler cap and restarted the test run. At three minutes the bars showed again and continued until the fifth bar showed. The fan came on and in just a bit the fifth and fourth bar went away. Again this was at 2000 rpm. The fourth bar showed, fan came on and back down to the third bar we went. This confirms that the temp switch on the fan is working, the water pump is working and I will still keep adding a bit of anti-freeze at a time until I'm satisfied that the unit is full of fluid. I had called the dealer and they looked up ALL my records and it turns out that they had NEVER added any fluid. It's a 2014 unit and I had never even checked the coolant level as the machine had always performed flawlessly in easy and HARD conditions. This whole deal is probably my fault.

I'll continue to watch this closely. I did inspect and function test the filler cap. No trash in it and the spring/seal is good. It's hard to see the "line" on the purge tank but I filled it ABOUT half way full. After squeezing the radiator hoses they were firm and flexible so I'm good there.
