Battery drain trouble teoubleshooting

I have a 2015 Commander 1000 xt.
Scenario: New battery installed.
Take the bike from fully charged state go for an hour ride. Shut the bike off and will not restart. Have to boost it with my power pack.
When engine is off battery reads 14V
Start engine battery reads 12.6 V and appears to be dropping.
If i put the positive lead on the battery and negative on chassis ground it will read 12.6V.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem. I would assume it would be the stator, viltage regulator or stator.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks Gord

There's not a whole lot to the (re)charging system on these bikes, Gordo. We read of a lot more failures/issues with the VR than the stator, fwiw, but your issue could be either one of 'em.

Check the stator for output, VR as well. One of them isn't returning juice to the battery, it sounds like, and the engine running eventually drains the battery to the point of no re-start.
