Ok please justify your answer ,, not just because brp rocks ..... which one will you get if you could aford both ? and WHY ?

Commander. Commander has more power and I trust Can-Am. I watched videos of the commander and say wow. If that thing can go through what Gorilla puts it through, then they have me sold.

I love the rzr though because of the sporty look and the fact that is is skinnier, which means when you lift it big it can still fit through small trails unlike the commander. IMO the orange rzr is the best looking sxs but I enjoy the power and think the commander is a better choice for my style riding.

Commander 1000 > RZR > Commander 800

Meaning I would probably take the RZR over the 800 model.

I would also go with commander as well...I am a BRP fan but that is only one reason...
the rzr does look kool and they handle great etc...but lack in power by a long shot...

the rzr is a great handling machine but that is about it...there is not alot of utility with them or power and speed compared to the commander..

the commander IMO is great for utility and handling and best in power...

so really you get an all around great sxs...

plus the build quaility in the can-ams are second to none...yes all machine have their issues..some more than others etc...but the can-ams are pretty easy to over come if you take care of your machine...

go with the commander..you wont be sorry..

We bought a Rhino in 06, which as everyone knows needs more power...so in 08 in went an 800 Rotax..we had waited a year on Can-Am to come out with a SxS...to no avail..

The Rhintax out pulled out climbed the RZR's unless they were running MCX turbos...BOOSTED on the high side.....we ride with a lot of RZR guys and I could of bought a RZR but....

So with that said...when Cam-Am had real good rumors that they would release there SxS early in 2010....there was no looking back..

Put money down on an X in late May, before I even knew what they were going to look like for sure....

I'm totally impressed with the X ...we ride mainly in the sand, but we do some trails also...Left the BH on... aired them down to 5lbs and I could make almost everything in 2WD except for the 2 or 3 steepest ones we have around our area...
The Touque of the 1000 in low just keeps pulling like a billy goat
Took all the quad trails in the sand with no problem...may in the future add PS...with the close ratio on the steering it can pull the wheel out of your hand if you hit some good ruts..
As of know it is tore down in our shop getting Muzzy race exhaust along with a wego 3 & digituner controller & harnesses so it will be up and ready for the Thanksgiving ride

I had two PoPo and both I spent more time under them than riding. I found both to be high maintenance ATV. Since then Honda 9984 miles and only chance oil. Grizzly and 2 Cats low to no maintenance. I do ride and all were high mileage. CA I rode 3 days and got 260 miles. If you want to work on the machine rather than ride get a Polaris.

I've always liked the rzr's but i like power more so I would chose the commander. Keep in mind I have never driven or road in either one. I know almost nothing about either one other than what I have read in the forums. I just like canams power. And brp's warranty is second to none IMO. I'm sure you will be happy with what ever you chose. I read somwhere that the best ride out there is the one that is glued to your a$$.

The answer depends on what you want to do with the machine and where you plan to ride it. The Commander has tons of power but does not handle at all compared to the RZR S. Ride both and you will see. For me the choice was easy. The Can Am is just a Rhino or Teryx on steriods, not what I was looking for. But to a lot of people, that may be what is best for them.

Have you rode the rzr in the Michigan trails? I've been told they are to wide to ride on them(legally) I've been pondering the Robby Gordon Edition 4seater, but don't want something I'm limited to only sand dunes and road.

I own a new XT1000 and just sold a RZR "S"

They ARE two different vehicles in my opinion. The RZR S is a sport vehicle and is not a utility at all...so there is a decision you have to make. ...whether you want utility or not...and everyone's answer cannot be the same obviously because of the nature of the different things people do with them. It is not always that "THIS one is BETTER"

I ride them all,but the two mentioned here are both top of the list and great vehicles, they are just different and should not be DIRECTLY compared so often like we often see here, because they should almost be in different leagues.

Of the available utility machines, the Can Am 1000 is setting a new bar in my opinion,..because of the good finish, seating, horsepower, etc is sort of gets you in the fun zone more than some of the others and for my own personal use it is a good balance.

The RZR"S" version is a flat out fun side x side and out handles ANY other hands down...yes,it does. On My MX track,I have a set of whoops that are 2 ft high,15 ft apart and there are 10 of them in a row.
The RZR S will skip right across them in a straight line if you learn to stay HARD on the gas all the way through....there is no clunking and loud smashing (the S's long travel is awesome) ...it will keep its nose level on jumps, the engine is behind you and there are no vibrations or racket.. This is what I love about the RZR S.
The REGULAR RZR is the absolute WORST at this test...it bounces sideways (and sometimes rolls) I tried and tried to get the rythm....and I would never again attempt anything of the likes on a regular rzr.
However,...the RZR models are all but useless for anything like hauling loads,..they are too short in my opinion for 4 seat cages people put on them,..they lack a lot of the things some people want to be able to do.

The Can Am 1000 tracks decent thru this test, better than a regular RZR for sure, not as good as the rzr S ,..but probably better or on par with a Teryx. (most all of the UTILITY version actually suck at the level flight, bottoming, nosediving)

The second Commander pic on this page is "entering that section"
http://www.daltonindustries.com/products_canambrp_clutchkits.asp

The Can Am is,however the best mix for ME with its mix of HP and the ability to use it for a lot of different things.I love the seats,I like the handling , I love the power( I had to spend quite a lot of money on cams, pistons, etc to get a Teryx to where this one is stock)

I mean ideal situation for many might be to own:
- A sand rail
- a Dump truck
- a woods jeep
-a desert car
- a garden tractor

but ..you know..sometimes you get ONE vehicle and compremise right?

It may not be for everybody because it is not fair to always group us all into one bubble, but For Me,...Can Am hit a home run with the all around versatility and the lure of FACTORY HP. without mods.

as of now i own a teryx its a tank and endless mods can be done lots of guys can buy these cheap and put a 840 kit in them and keep up with any of them.i dont like polaris there a cool idea but they never as been a relible machine.i'm waiting at least a year for the hype to end on these can am's and the full retail price.i own a outty xxc truely a funest machine i owned.in stock form the rzr dont like water and they never will sound good i say they sound like a cow stuck in a fence no matter what exhaust, the can am needs some seat time to see what the weak points are and the over inflated pricess rite now to stop.i guess it depends on your wallet!

this is a tough one that me and my buddies have been talking about.
I think the commander will be a nicer sxs in pretty much every aspect of quality, features, and power. but the commander is big, its just a little too wide for where we ride. woods and mud trails. I love the fact that the rzrs has a body thats no wider then a normal rzr, then its got tires just sitting out there almost like a wrangler with full width axles.

outys are 46inchs wide
commander is 58.5inches
rzr-s body width50.5inches track width 60.5inches

i think having a skinny body and tires sticking out past the body with good suspension should allow us to get the rzr s most places i take my outy.
I think if they come out with a rzr s with a more powerful motor like a 1000cc, and keep the weight down, i'd buy it. I just don't feel like spend 14k+ just to have to put a turbo on something to make up for a lack of power. so right now i'm leaning toward the rzr s but not by much

I think that this is a bad idea..if you want a 4 seater get a 4 seater..

The Commander does not ride as good as the RZR S...Speed to me does not matter...I have not had one issue with not having enough power with the RZR. The CC wars of the manufactures is crazy...Now they are going to come out with a 900 RZR...The commander is bulky and 1500 lbs..I have a real issue with that...I am not a RZR die hard but I think that Can Am still has come up short competing overall with the RZR S...I love the Commanders (Catvos Lifted) but I do not like the over all look stock...The Can Am will out run the RZR but who just drag races? I say look at your overall riding plans and make the decision...

I have seen a commander and an rzr playing together on san dunes last week. I was very confused as i dont know anymore if the commander is still my dream toy. Commander was keep geting stuck in the sand where the rzr was going around it ,, they both had bighorn tires. The commander was also scratching its front facial on steep downhill dunes where the rzr front was not touching on nearly 80 degerees downheel , ok comander was slightly faster and commander interior was definately nicer ,, but then i am not sure anymore on its cababilities on steep uphills and downhills ... rzr was all over the place ,,, by the way i am a proud 800r owner ..

My wife and I own a 2005 bombardier traxtor max. We live in SW utah near the good trails like the piute etc. We have never rode another machine. I am 70 years old and 3 spins on the scale! The wife is big too. We have rode with some rzr`s and I was very impressed with them. We havent tried both sitting together in a rzr, and I suppose it would be jammed! We did sit together in a dealers commander and it was good, but wish the seats would go back a little farther. I am about 6 ft 1" and wife is 5 ft 11"s. Over 600 lbs between us with cloths etc.
To complicate matters I definetly like the idea that the rzr can get through the 50" trail gates, the comander cant! I like the bigger commander, the more power, the rzr everyone says is better handeling.
It`s a delemma! Another thing is, you add up the options that I want and it makes your eyes water!
I think whats going to happen here is I am gonna dance with the one I brung, AND it`s paid for! The traxter is huge, I hardly feel theresa behind me, It will go through the bridges, and you cant stop that one lunger!
The things wrong with it is, it is very heavy steering and gives your arms and shoulders a workout, and it is hard to shift. This machine has been a pain every since new, sticky shifting. Sometimes what works best is to shut it off, rock and shake it into gear and restart the engine. Also the machine is harder to turn around on a narrow trail than the shorter machines of other people that we ride with.
I would like imput from some of you more experianced guys, whatcha think? I have about 2,700 miles on mine. Right now its at my dealer for a new belt, the speedo and odometer are screwed up and the mechanic is trying to fix or reset it. The seat cover is ripped and thats about it. I recently put big horns on the front and clones on back.
Do I dance with the one I brung untill she croaks? Or start looking for a commander or rxrs?

Im in the same boat as you my friend...I want a commander so bad, but the more reading i do, the more i'm leaning towards the new rzr ranger 900xp. They look so sweet! Plus the riding is apperently way smoother and handles alot better...so they say. I might just hold off another year just to see how BRP will answere to its rival. I've herd that BRP may release a newer, sportier, better handling side-x-side next year. So ill hold off just to see what they come up with. I dont want to spend $20K just to find out that there is something bigger and better next year.

Each vehicle has its pros and cons. It comes down to what you want to do with it. There are at least four RZR's in our riding group and they really arent that bad. One guy breaks something almost every time out, but he rides aggressively and has the ability to fix it when it breaks. I like the looks of the Commander vs. the RZR, but the most valid point to me is that the Commander is wider and cant go everywhere the RZRs or Outtys can go. Makes it a lot harder when you're in some thick trails.

I've rode in both and drove both (friends each have one) , IMO it depends whether you want a Utility SxS or a Trail SxS. As far as performance they are both pretty similar but the RZR is better in tighter trails . If your going to actually use it for some work then Commander hands down. We don't have gate issues wher I ride but we do have very narrow trails so in my case I would have to go with the RZR:sad:

I have a RZR S but I have owned a Rhino. I sold the Rhino and bought a golf cart just because I didn't enjoy driving the Rhino in the mountains but I still needed something to use on the farm. I am well satisfied with the RZR on the trails. The Commander is more like the Rhino except it has more power. Like some have said, if you want to use it for more than just to drive around on trails buy the Commander. If you want to run trails at a higher speed, buy the RZR.

For now I am going to "Dance with the one I brung" untill a year or so if it dont break and holds up. That will give time to see what they develope. I know there is better and more desireable machines, after looking at it, I sure like that 800 outy too! However the traxtor is paid for and should have a lot of life left. Got new tires on it too. Thanks, guys.
P.S. On all those machines the extras I would want, plus if I got a commander I would need a wider trailer, the cost waters your eyes!

what else do I say
the red commander is stock, has tires and snorkles, stock clutch, stock tune etc
the rzr it beat has a turbo, the rzrs couldnt keep belts in em, and people thought commanders had belt problems lol
