I was going to change the oil in the gearbox on my 650 max. I got the brp chaincase oil p/n 413 801 900. It looks to be runny like water. Is this right, I thought this kind of oil would be thicker. Thanks for any help. Also which oil lubes the wet clutches the engine oil or the gearbox oil?

If U mean the wet clutches like in a cat, suzuki or yamaha auto tranny, Can-Am doesn't have one in the primary clutch. It is like a Ski-Doo clutch and is dry.

What most of the guys use in the gearbox (tranny) is 75W-140 and in the diffs 75W-90 synthetic GL5 rated.

Since BRP's oils are expensive, a lot of the guys go to the Auto Parts House and get Mobil 1 or Purple or some well known brand of synthetic. I see in the manual it says petro based or synthetic, but that little engine gets real hot, and synthetic carries the heat away better than petro based.

I can't remember exactly, but if what I last put in mine was runny like water, I would have questioned it.

can am has two types of chain case oil, you want the synthetic, the other is i think a mineral oil, i know i got the runny stuff, then found the synthetic, it's thicker

There is a pretty long discussion about the gear case lube subject..do a search for gearbox lube, or something akin to that. Dez had started it. I am planning on running the amsoil 2000 synth. chaincase lube with the moly additive that Dez had recommended.
