There's info on here if you search 400 carburetor. I don't recall what mine was .
VM series rings a bell for some reason .

 

Thanks for your kind reply. It is off of a 330 however, not a 400. Partzillla lists the 330 HO 4x4 as Mikuni BSR33-56/SKU 700200230 vs
400 HO 4x4 as Mikuni BSR33-49/SKU 700200190.
With my apology, I am not sure if looking up threads for 400 carbs will be helpful.
I will check on thar VM you are alluding to although if you look closer (I wasn't 100% certain myself) the "Mikuni" logo looks like a more stylized version of my old Quadrunner one. VM(M)...ikuni on my 330 perhaps? Thank you for your kind and prompt response.

My apologies for my well overdue reply (away hunting on my new/used 330 H.O. 4x4) but I appreciated your input. Indeed I confirmed that is indeed the BSR33-56. Everything is great now. Cleaned, tuned and runs well. Only beef I have is the short ass idle adjustor screw. Can't reach it without my flex screwdriver and even then it's perilous! Scorched hand through glove because exposed exhaust pipe so near. 🔥👀🤌🏼 Going to see if I can design an extension for it somehow.

figure out what is bad on the oem mikuni first.

Fuel screw stripped or seized is pretty common.

 

I've used this exact kit on my 2005 330. Even though i later upgraded it to a 400, it still functions correctly.

They are both BSR-33 (33mm) bases.
Would the -49 and -56 just a be version number that indicates the jet package they come with or something like that.

With that clean up the original, you can still get a full BSR rebuild kit and OEM Mikuni jets are still available.
Lots of older Yamaha Kodiak 400's use the BSR-33 also.
A service manual should tell you what jet sizes it came with.

Yes.... mostly

If you go to a parts fiche for the 330 and 400 you can see the specific parts that are different, most are jets which swap between the carbs.

There are some times though the carb body can have pressed in air correction jets that are different and not made to be changed. If you can identify these differences you can some times open up a small air jet larger but shrinking a large jet gets tough. It is always safest to start with the correct carb body but in a pinch I would try either.

I know how to clean them old school. Cleaned the one on my old Suzuki Quadrunner 250 a couple of times. Setting up needle, etc I leave to my expert independent
tech. Only $100 🇨🇦 and I can do the hook up myself.
