Hello group. Thank you for having me. Recently purchased my first every dirt toy - a 2001 Bombardier Traxter XT. Was owned by an elderly gent who used it to go to his mailbox. Unit has 120 -, (YES, 120 miles/kms?). I am in Canada - so thinking mileage is in kms.
A couple of questions to get me learning - the unit was manuafactured in 10/2000 (Oct 2000) so would that be considered a 2001 Traxter?
Where could I obtain both an Operators Manual and a Service/Parts Manual? Are they within this site somewhere, free to download?
Have had this thing running but it seems finicky. Starts once day, just rolls over the next. Smells as it it may flood easily. I have done next to nothing to it to date other than change the spark plug. Old plug was fouled and the gap was incorrect. {I did read somewhere the plug gap is .65, correct? Any heads up info I should be aware of? Thanks again for having me and thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Looking forward to learning and playing on this unit.

Cheers,
BallJovi.

Some times, yes. Some manufacturers will have model years that do not match up though so look on the machine for a tag with a four digit number starting with a 7***

This parts fiche for a 2001 lists a number of them to help.

Manuals should be on this site for download, I purchased mine prior on a CD from ebay.

Check the air box for a mouse nest, if you reduce air you can make it run rich. After that I would say based on mine the machine is trying to be both rich enough for your cold winter and lean enough for warm summer that is a fine line. On mine I start with the enrichener but shut it down asap, not long at all. Following that you may need to lean out the pilot circuit with the fuel screw. If someone has rebuilt the carb it is possible the wrong jet size is inside.

Yes the factory did not assemble the flywheel properly some of the time so the flywheel bolts can come loose and lock up the motor damaging the stator and other parts. If the bike starts to have battery issues STOP running the motor until you verify this is not happening.

If you try and jump start the machine and do it wrong (say off a running car) you can damage the MPEM (sp) which you can not get anymore, there is a member who can some times repair them. My machine had this happen before I bought it ...
flywheel fell off.
Battery died
Jump start from car
fried Mpem
Bought new MPEM and battery
still would not start and motor locked up
sold it to me and I fixed it.

Understand a NEW Mpem will reset the mileage to zero Iirc, mine had under 100 miles on it when I got it yet the tires were worn more than that.

Idle speed is important make sure it is correct.

Shocks can fail some use honda rancher iirc shocks.

Pistons can break and no one is making replacements.

The machine is basically a manual transmission that is clutching and shifting through electric solenoids pushing hydraulics, it is a little slow to shift so do not expect a sport machine. It is very heavy and not going to be a power house but as a trail machine or work horse it works great. I installed a 60inch plow 2 years ago and it works great. On the trails it is very stable and comfortable to ride , easy to get on and off with the step through design.

If you haven’t already the only thing I could recommend that other people haven’t is to check the fuel lines and the connections to the tank, when I poked around with the fuel tees on my traxters tank they fell apart in my hand. Just something to keep in mind when your dealing with a 23 year old machine
