I am going to be purchasinga new outlander soon and would like some input on this subject. My question is, which is better for real world mud riding or just trail riding in general. At first I didnt like the looks of the max at all but the moreI see it the more I like it. I know the max is more $$$, but that isnt a factor. So I need some opinions on which is better..Can-am max or can-am standard...both will be 800's and xt's

The wife and I both ride the Max (800 and 650) and love them. I also have a Renegade. My :2cent:is, I love the Max for a smooth ride and great stability, as well as the 2 up capability, and rack and storage area. They are great in mud, snow, as well as trails with big rocks here in Arizona. The only real downside I see is that they are longer and therefore require more trailer space. They take up a little more room in a garage if you are trying to squeeze in just one more toy like me. They are a little harder to turn around on a narrow trail, etc. Overall, I think they are worth the extra money.

I have an 07 800 max with 52 hours on it . the longer wheel base will make you do some 3 point turns but the ability to carry an extra person is fantastic. It does great in mud (i ride alot in mississippi) tires make the difference there.

Thanks for the welcome. I really will never have a passenger on it because this is going to be my race bike. I need the extra length of the max in the bogs. I just need to know the differances in the two, is there a power differance? ....P.S thanks for all the responses so far

:wel:Silverback.

The max weighs a little more than the std length outy. The max xt weighs a little more than the std max.

There is no difference in power betweeneither of the two Max Outy 800's and either of the two stdlength Outy 800's. Same engine, same everything on all the 800 cc Outys.

Now go get your Outy 800, :aniwh:, best quad on the planet. :)

Let us know how it goes.

I'll keep you all updated on what I decide to get. And the reason I need the extra length in a bog is because it is very hard to keep the front end down when your in 3-4 feet of mud giving it full throttle. With the extra length it keeps the front end from coming straight up. Now in the real world mud holes I dont know what will happen. In some situations the extra length would help, but in some it wouldnt be so good (more frame to get hung up). When I buy this quad it will have a 6" lift already installed so the extra weight shouldnt hurt me none.

I have the standard length XT and wish most of the time I had went ahead and gotten the Max...It just rides better...

For boggin'..I would say the Max would be better, but don't take my word for it..go look on Highlifter and PM a guy named greenhead...he has a beautiful 800Max LTD with a lift kit and laws...a really pretty bike...

Yeah It will also have clutch work already done to it when I buy it. OutlanderDan, Yeah me and greenhead are pretty good friends..he is the one who is selling me this quad. I am buying it from him and it will have a 6" lift , outlaws, clutch work, pipe, filter,etc...all under warranty!!.....P.S that camo looks pretty good, but I like silver better :)

Man, that bike is going to turn some heads. To keep it pretty, is there something you can spray on the metal and plastic, especially the hot metal parts, so's you can clean it up?

I'm pretty sure ceramic dip on the pipes will help the rust, heat, and keep them looking better.

I won't answer for killerloop, but I do agree with him.

NBM says the camo plastic problem is fixed for the 08's, that has been an ongoing question until a he posted it's been taken care of. He sells bikes up there where it's really cold, so he would be the one to know.

I haven't had any problems with mine (yet).. hmmm...
The temp has to be pretty low for problems to occur. Quite a few guys have come out in the morning tofind their fenders split.

Other guys like zac41, no problems. These Outys will keep you guessing, that's for sure.

FWIW, my red plastic is the toughest andmost resilient I've ever seen.
