Questions on Financing and extended warranty

Have been lurking and reading on here for a while now and had some questions. I'm looking into purchasing a new Commander this year and obviously will be financing a good portion of the purchase price. Please feel free to give me your opinions on CanAm financing verses financing through a third party such as local bank/credit union and also if buying the extended warranty is worth it or not. I'm just starting to research my options and would like some input from some of you folks on this. I'm in the Cincinnati area, any reccomendations on dealers?

Welcome to the forum!

I financed through a third party (my bank) for the simple fact that I'm walking in the dealership with cash in hand. This means the ball is in your court now when it comes to negotiating a better price and getting a deal. If you finance through the dealership I found it's alot harder to get a better price. that's just my :smilietwocents:

I also went with my bank for pre-approval. Then asked the dealer if they could beat the rate. In this case they couldn't beat the rate. And I always get an extended warranty with any vehicle I buy. Just for peace of mind, but I try and pay cash for the warranty to avoid paying even more interest.

My credit score is in the high 700s to low 800s. When I applied for financing through BRP the interest rate they gave me was 17%, and keep in mind I was going to pay $6,000 down. I went to my bank (Credit Union) the next day and got the same loan for 5%. BTW The more you pay down on a loan the better off you are. Shop around and go with the best offer.

I went though my dealer, which went though mutiple banks. I got 6 months no interest and no payments, also no down payment. When my payments start the interest however is about 12%, luckily my taxes will be here before they start and I'll just pay it off in one lump sum.

I tried to go through my bank but they wanted a down payment, and payments would start right away, meaning what I've done to my ride since October couldn't of happened...

As for Renelander's advice, it's very good advice, my situation however was different, and that wouldn't of mattered. My bike was on Craigslist and eBay for 7800$ new year-end leftover, I paid 7500$... well... I haven't actually paid a dime yet... lol

My opinion is, do not deal with BRP (HSBC), as they are basically legalized loan sharks. Your bank can offer you much better rates.

Also, get the BRP extended warrantee if it is offered to you for free, which it usually is if you push hard enough. I'm not sure I would pay for it. I personally got 3-years thrown in the deal.

Yes, no doubt BRP is adding the warranty to new rides, I got an additioanl 2 yrs no dickering involved. I paid cash so a loan purchase could not be leveraged with interest rates. Go with your bank rate and see if BRP will match it, if not just get the bank loan. Do not let BRP be a shark with your money.

When I bought my Outlander at the end of Sept. last year, I used the promotional financing that BRP was offering at the time. My interest rate is 3.9% for 3 years. No local bank around here would be able to match that. Have you checked with your dealer?

Thanks for the replies and good advice. I have emailed several dealers within about 125 miles of me and gotten back replies from most. Seems like the pricing they are quoting me is $15,099.00 to 15,199.00. He's one response on pricing with prep, shipping, tax, ect. "The Commander X $15099 plus fees. If you place your deposit on an incoming unit, it will be 14699 + 881.94 taxes + 199 process fee + 595 shipping and handling which I will cut to 295. This will put you at 16074.94 on the road. Does this sound about right or can I do better? Probally going to visit at lease two dealers, sit down and work out a total, out the door price with added accessories. I'm waiting on filing my taxes and getting my refund for a down payment, but want to get some accurate pricing to be able to show the bank and see if I can finance through them instead of BMR. Also had a price on an XT for $14,699.00. Kinda like the price savings but not sure if I want to settle for an XT or go for the X. Either bike I plan on putting on some accessories like winch, top, windshield, front/rear brumper/brush guards. Keep the suggestions coming, it really helps to have a little input from current owners.
