I'm in the market for a new pipe for my machine and I'm looking for some guidance. This is my first canam I've owned, I've had grizzlies in the past. My question is can I just purchase a slip on exhaust? Do I need the whole exhaust system? Also do I need the optimizer? I'm thinking an hmf pipe but if anybody has any other suggestions go for it.
Thanks

Personally I find a lot of the slip ons on these big twins can be super loud and obnoxious... you will notice a lot of guys sell theirs and go back to stock.

Yes you can just get a slip on and programmer is optional. Can't go wrong with hmf, fmf, yoshi etc.

My opinion also but thats just me, the stock engine makes a nice sound already and I dont really see a reason to switch the exhaust to make more noise. Some members here dont like their aftermarket slip ons and want to sell them.

Ok thanks guys, I just hate the look of the stock exhaust, i bought this machine used and the exhaust is the only thing that bothers me, it's super bulky and just looks gross, I'd just like to clean it up with a nice pipe not looking for huge sound or performance, curious if there's anything like that I can get.

Get the HMF Titan if you want a good quality pipe that looks a lot better but doesn't make a lot of noise. I got the Titan XL cuz I wanted the noise but even that is not near as loud as some of the others on the market (got it in the ceramic coated black). It definitely cleans up the area where the big bulky stocker was sitting. You will need a fuel controller though with a slip on...... should have one anyways really. They run better/cooler if you richen them up a bit from the factory setting. A fuel controller will be the least expensive route but you can always get your ECM reprogrammed too which has some really nice benefits.

Straight Line Performance pipes are very well built! That's going to be my next exhaust actually. However, I've never heard a "quiet" SLP exhaust system. Lol

It's not stock quiet, but mine was legal when I tested it when I first got it.

Ill just throw in a programmer is not optional, its required when you put a slip on on any g2 bike, more so 2015+. Big gun exo is fairly quiet. Listen a bunch of different sound clips and chose the one you like best. The straightline pipe mentioned is also very well built and fairly quiet when packing is in good shape and spark arrester intact.

I had the HMF on my 450 and found it to be absolutely obnoxious, even with the quiet core. I then went with the GSE "Trail Tamer" system, which sounds perfect (to me). Not too loud, but you can tell it's not stock. Also, my buddy has a 2016 650 Max. He liked mine so much, he ordered one too. It sounds GREAT on his V-Twin. Your 800 should sound about the same. They claim no tuner is needed with the GSE system, HOWEVER.... a tuner is a good idea, even on a bone stock machine. These things are purposely set to run extra lean from the factory, in order to be economical and put out less emissions.

why do you need a fuel tuner when you switch exhaust?

If you are flowing more air, you need to add more fuel to make up for it.
