I’m not sure what the general consensus is but I’ll be honest I regret buying the extended warranty. Only issue I’ve had with the bike was a premature Brake pad failure that was covered under the basic warranty and than I ended up with bad gas that fouled my plugs which wouldn’t have been covered anyways I took care of myself. I’ve talked to some friends of mine that have all bought new can Ams and none of them bought the warranty. The other thing I have come to realize from reading on here is that if you ride mud can am has denied a lot of people claims by Fleming “abuse” cause in the owners manual it recommends not to go over the floor boards or something silly low like that. As far as riding in snow it depends on which tires you have these things do pretty well even with out tracks not that tracks wouldn’t be fun!!
Hopefully others will chime in the help you make a decision but that’s my .2 cents

If its going to just sit all winter, wait til spring. The factory warranty is much better than the extended warranty is as far as coverage goes and there is no deductible like the extended has. I'm sure prices will come down in spring too after that machines 6 months older…..

I bought the extended warranty and never used it….. Its all personal opinion on warrantys

 

Why waste your warranty sitting in the garage. Wait until spring.

 

I bought the extended warranty, but NOT the BRP one. I bought RPM One warranty and they replaced an axle no questions asked. The dealer told me that if I had the BRP warranty it would have taken weeks to get the axle approved but since I had the aftermarket one, the dealer fixed it that day. Just something else to consider, is the turn around time on warranty repairs.

 

First off tracks are awesome. Second, for the warranty it really comes down to your dealer. If you have a good dealer 100% get the extended. I just had my front diff replaced. The extended just paid for its self right there.

I bought extended. Used it a few times for minor things. Would not buy again.

 

I'm having the same dilemma as you are. I'm picking up an 18 Outlander XXC on Friday. Where I'm netting out is buy an extra 6 months to get through next summer. I will reassess after summer if I should extend the warranty or not. Keep in mind you do not have to elect the warranty at the time after the purchase, but before the current warranty expires. In the end I know I'm just buying peace of mind for the first year on major repairs.

 

I bought the extended but not BRP and I switched dealerships to buy it. The local one I bought my xmr from sold it to me at a great price But when I got in to the paperwork department they lied to me. Said I had to buy the extended right then or I wouldn't be able to buy one. Bald face lie. You can buy a warranty up until the day before the factory 6 month warranty expires. Now the dealer I moved to now is awesome. I have it in for service right now and having the rear input shaft seal replaced on the diff and also I have an injector ticking on my front cylinder. I was told my the service manager. We will take care of it it will be warranty and there will be no questions asked. When I took it in about 3 days after I bought it ( to the original dealer ) when my winch wouldn't engage. They looked at me and said. Ummm I don't have a clue if can am will warranty that. Big huge blood red sign that they have no clue what they are doing My injector was ticking too so I asked them to check the valves. Thai was before I figured out myself it is the injector. I went back to get it 3 days later and asked if the valves were in spec and they told me yes so I checked the receipt for the work and nothing was listed involving the valves. So I asked were they checked. They service manager. Took the receipt walked to his desk and hand wrote. Valves check. They were in spec . I went to the dealer instantly in the neighboring town ( where I bought the warranty. And asked about the sound and checking the valves that fast. And was told. No way on earth did they check those valves and get it back to me in the time they had it. Plus they would have told me. That inside the first 100 miles the valves are still wearing in and no adjustment would do any good. All that said. Warranty is only as good as the dealer that you have do your work. Buy it or don't. Your call. But just be sure and know the people that you expect to handle your warranty work. Or you will have wasted your money

 

Valves should be checked after 10 hours, and yes, they can check them in the 3 days that they had your machine. It takes me about 1 1/2 hours.

 

Thanks to everyone for sharing there experiences with warranties. I can (and will) wrench on it myself but being so complicated with electronics and all I will use the dealer also I'm guessing.
In terms of it sitting this winter (buying tracks )or not, well, that I have yet to decide.....

 

Researching the warranty is a very good idea. your buying the Ferrari of atvs and with that comes some extra maintenance because HP and speed tend to cause parts to wear faster. knowing what your getting and what it covers will help if you ever have to use it. and one of the biggest issues with warranties is the dealers, dealers are not created equal. some are just total pieces of garbage but thats the case with all MC type dealers. what you need to do is call around and get the bike a the warranty at the cheapest price and negotiate the price separately. I like the 3 year warranty for an extra 500 but i would not pay more than that. i like it for the simple fact of the powers steering unit, if it goes out its around $800 just for the unit. on a g2 its probably another $500 in labor to get it put in. seals busings ect are not covered and as we know can am busings suck and should be replaced after 1000 miles with garage product ones and they have a life time warranty.
