What Polish to use for fender plastic???

I've tried different products, and I can't seem to find anything that will give my black fenders the mirror shine they had when the bike was brand new. Well, my bike is still new, but I've got some dull spots that I want to buff out.

I've used some mild car polish to revove slight blemishes, then I used a final polish to try and bring back the deep gloss mirror effect, but tha't not happening!!! I can get a nice smooth shiny surface, but I can't achieve a reflective mirror finish. I also have a product called plastix, it's meant for ATV's Boats, etc.. It basically coats the plastic and gives it a shine as you buff it with a dry cloth. However, it's the plastic itself that needs to shine in order to achieve what I'm looking for.
There are sections of my fender where I can see the reflection of my teeth very clearly, and that's the final result that I would like to have. If it wasn't black I'd be satisfied with my current results, but being black, it's not nearly where it needs to be.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not ever gonna look new again sorry. The best u can do is use some sc1 or silicone based spray when u want it to shine good but it will wear off

If you've got time to look at your teeth in the fender, you aren't riding NEARLY fast enough. I say take off the granny panties and give'er some throttle!

Lol

The fenders on my Outty Xxc look like CRAP. That's my motivation to lead the pack and make them work to keep up. I get time to rest at corners, and by the time they catch up, I'm loaded up and ready to go. There's no time for them to be lookin for dull spots in the fenders. Besides, most of the guys I ride with don't even have all their teeth, so they won't be bitchin about not being able to see their reflection anyway! lmao. Just kidding!

LMAO..

I have issues when it comes to polishing!!! lol
I like to get it dirty, but I also like to clean it, and those dull spots just stand out like a sore thumb. Shine is not the problem as I've added a shiny spray, it's reflection that's missing. And as someone said, it's probably never going to look like it after it's been smudged. I just figured I could polish it like you would when polishing a paint finish.
I just need to learn not to look at it! lol

And as far as examining my teeth goes, that's not necessarily related to having too much time on one's hand. When one goes over the handle bars and their face plants into the front of the rad, they just happen to look at their "holy **** I almost died face" in the reflection of the plastic, and happen to notice that they still have their teeth intact. Or maybe notice that there's a few missing! lol

I use Silkolene Pro Prep. Unfortunately once in mold colors get scuffed they are scuffed for life but pro prep makes them look better but you'll need to do it after wash.

SC1 is the best stuff you can use.

I get mine plenty dirty but I wash it very thoroughly after every ride then polish it up just to get it muddy again. To me, we ride these things hard so you should at least keep it shiny clean when not using it and keep the fluids fresh. I take care of my stuff and I like for it to look perrty when it's just sitting around or on the trailer going to another ride.

Pay attention everybody SILICONE is what makes plastic shine, any spray on product that contains silicone thats what injection molding plants for the plastic to keep it from sticking to the mold

Funny you should ask.... I have 11 different types of polishes, waxes and gimmicky stuff and all left a cloud on my black plastic:th_smiliefrustrated. $200.00 later I found the stuff. It's called "Auto Detailer" it comes is a aerosol can and you just spray in on and leave it. made by "Car Bright":th_smiliedance:

I had my new bike for 3 hours thinking i would wax it, and as most of you know if you have black plastic BAD IDEA....

So, you have experience with polishing, I take it!
I've done a lot of automobile polishing over the years, and I'm somewhat fanatical when it come to black. This is the first time that I've used a clear coat polishing compound on my atv. I had in mind that I would achieve the same results as when polishing clear coat. Not the case!!! lol

The result of using a final stage clear coat polish on my plastic, was the same as using 1500-1800 wetsand. Therefore, I had no shine whatsoever!
What's designed to give you an incredible deep gloss polish on clear coat, basically dulls the **** out of plastic. Obviously the compound in the polish is still too coarse.

Because you've tried 11 different polishes, I know that you have definitely ruined the original finish. So you can appreciate what I'm talking about.
Are you saying that "auto detailer" has restored it to a polished finish? Or just to a tolerable result?
There has to be polish that will actually smoothen the plastic to a deep gloss finish. I used "plastix" on mine after dulling it with car polish, and I have a telerable result. It's just the product that is shiny, not the actual plastic. I now have a faded black look.

On another note, I now know that there are a lot more people concerned about the cosmetics of their ATV's then what most admit to.
I started this thread yesterday, and more people have responded within one day than I have ever seen regarding any other mechanical/perfomance topic! lol

I use only STP son of a gun spray for vynal, its all i have ever used, SC-1 is also good, can get the SC-1 at your dealer parts department. But i like stp son of a gun better, spray down all plastic seat etc and leave it on over night befor wiping it off, it soaks in and man when you take that there stuff off better put on some shades because it leaves a shine like wouldn't beleave, you'lbe picking out your momas chicken from between those woober goobers you missed from last week when you forgot to brush lmao! Stp sonofagun FTW.

I take regular white water based armor all and dilute is a 3rd, if that. Then I just spray everything down with it. Take a rag and wipe it around. Few hours later it looks great....but it's a bit greasy.

I'm curious on the Mothers Back to Black....anymore talk on using that would great.
