Does it get worse or better with revs? Really sounds like rod knock at idle.

I know. this will be the 2nd time this machine has went back to the dealer since I bought it in early March. Not impressed so far. For years I have rode Honda and I am beginning to questions my decision on this Canam!

Quality Control nowadays is non-existent

Haven't we seen one or two topend issues out of some brand new Rotax's recently? Lifter arms or something?

You might try one of these and see if you can pin-point where the sound is coming from.

I've never actually used mine to diagnose a problem, but they really do work well.

So I started a post on this last year after i purchased my 2022 Outlander 850 XT. Mine has the exact same noise. To be honest I hope you have better luck than I had with first getting this diagnosed. Then getting it repaired. The problem usually isn't the dealer It's BRP. Dealer can't and won't do anything unless it's approved by BRP. My dealer diagnosed this noise as a rod knock. The dealer requested a long block to just replace my engine because my 850 was so new. BRP didn't approve the long block and told the dealer to tear down an engine with less than 5 hrs on it. The dealer told BRP they wouldn't and explained to me that BRP usually pulls this and only pays for what they deem necessary and sticks the dealer with the rest. I took my 850 to another dealer. This dealer confirmed what my dealer found and BRP also gave this dealer the runaround. My 850 stayed at 2 dealers for 2 months while still new. I finally decided that I'll use it with the noise until I have the time to take it to a well know Rotax engine builder for a rebuild. I contacted an attorney and will pursue this in the future. Good luck with yours hopefully you don't have to deal with this b.s. Unfortunately it seems BRP really doesn't stand by their product.

If that was the case with mine, and BRP and the dealer did the same to me, I would run it hard to blow it. Then they would have to replace it.

Wish I knew that a year ago. Warranty period is over. I didn't opt for the warranty cause they wouldn't honor the original warranty with a brand new machine. I had 6 months to buy the extended and said no thank you. The attorney said I can still go after them within 2 years. I have to pay for the repairs and he'll get BRP to pay up.

Curious why neither dealer did not tear your motor down to fix the problem they both diagnosed? Did they not have Canam mechanics?
Many dealers do not have love for warranty work as it can be hard to meet flat rate times and they get paid in credits not money usually , a dealer who has a good engine mechanic should be able to easily rebuild your motor without a issue.

Good Mechanics are hard to find and are worth driving for if you find one, look in the back shop for engines torn down. If the shop has no engine work going through the shop they will not have anyone trained, experience equals training. Abnormal noises seldom end well and you always want them diagnosed or repaired in warranty if possible. Often a new replacement part / job will carry its own warranty. So if you get a new long block and it fails again in short order, but out of your machines warranty it would also have some warranty in many cases.

BRP kept delaying the repair at the second dealer. Also the dealer kept saying if BRP doesn't cover any of the repair it's on me. The dealer also said they've gotten burned before. So it's mainly BRP but also the dealer who gives the runaround. Also to be honest I told both the dealer and BRP that I wanted a new long block. BRP flat out said no. That it doesn't matter hours old or not. They're policy is just to repair and replace the defective parts. To me that's totally unacceptable after paying $14000 on a new machine. The first dealer has been a BRP dealer for 30 yrs. and the Service Manager there said he's asking for a long block because my engine is bad. It is what it is now. How I didn't choke anybody in all this was a miracle. But I've accepted that I'll have one of the best in the business rebuild when I'm ready. Then go after BRP for the cost. My 850 sat a total of more than 2 months at 3 different dealers waiting to get this resolved. They drag their feet and meantime I didn't have a machine.

This is precisely why I was reluctant to blow high dough for a new bike , but I felt I had to . My little Renegade has over 6,000 miles on it and I can take it apart , reassemble it and have it running again with my eyes shut . I also have enough spare (new) parts to nearly build another working bike . She has never left me walking and is more fun in the woods than I can describe.
This new Outty is completely opposite. Not that it's a bad thing .
Just like comparing a Road King to a CR 500 .
What bothers me is (with the 23 Outty) I'm completely at the dealers mercy.

I here ya. I am more than capable of performing my own maintenance, fluids, filters, plugs, brakes, etc. When it comes to splitting an engine, I'm out! I am not a mechanic and it sucks when its the weekend and I open the garage door and there is an empty spot were my quad sits. I guess I can cruise around on my lawnmower. LOL

Research lemon laws in your state, I am not sure they work for atv's but if they do it puts canam on notice. Another thing you could try is work with canam to get your warranty period extended by canam if it is sitting at the dealer too long eating up the warranty period.

Here is what I know so far. The tech has had it in his bay since yesterday and has not been able to replicate the problem. The day I dropped it off the noise had reduced significantly but the tech listened to the videos I had and wanted to check it out. Two days before dropping it off I changed the oil to Amsoil 5w40 and ran it for maybe 15 minutes. The oil I drained looked brand new and it was BRP oil. I have always ran Amsoil in my toys so I opted to make the change since I had roughly 130 miles on the machine and figured any break-in that was to happen had already taken place. Did Amsoil magically fix my problem? LOL
The only other thing I found while greasing the fittings was one of the drain tubes had some water in it. When I pulled the bulb nothing drained out of the hose. It only had enough water to fill the catch bulb about half way. I am lost and it sounds like the dealer is too. He was checking for historic codes with the BUDS to see if there were any.
I will let you all know if I find anything else out. Planning on picking it up tomorrow.

Ok sounds like something might have been settling in. But I have also seen engines quiet down with an oil brand or weight change. Amsoil is good stuff.

Final update. I am picking the machine up today. No historic codes found, no issues found. I guess I was being paranoid. Paranoid or not if it starts making a knocking sound again I will take it right back to the dealer as long as it is under warranty. I am getting dinged with a $150 charge for diagnostics since nothing was found but that is cheaper than if I hadn't taken it and something catastrophic happened to the motor. Lots of rain and mud here lately in MIchigan. Gonna ride it and enjoy it until next time. Thanks for all the replies, even you 10mm. LOL
have a good weekend everyone!
